Abba, "The Visitors" / 1981 Review by: Chris
This was the final original album released by the Swedish superstars. It is an album of defeat and disillusionment, a radical departure from their usual cheerful sound. Agnetha and Bjorn had divorced in 1979 and Benny left Frida for another woman during the recording sessions for The Visitors. The title track deals with the dangerous situation for dissidents in Russia at the time. The rest of the album deals with the end of relationships and losing loved ones. At the time of it's release, it was wondered if it was a real Abba album. The heavy beat is still there, but the cheerful sound of the earlier albums has gone. It was unmistakeably a farewell album. Favourite songs: The Visitors, When All Is Said And Done, One of Us and Soldiers. The new edition includes the B side of One Of Us - a song called Should I Laugh Or Cry. That's my favourite of them all and it should have been included on the original LP.

9 out of 10.
