Big Country, "The Crossing" /
1983
Review by: Daniel Arkin
The album that started it all: bagpipes, ebows, huge drums, big vocals, checked shirts. Out of step with the reigning plinky synth-poppers, here was a band that wove twin-guitar intricacies, melodic basslines & passionate vocals into a classic debut that reeked of Highland mist & mystery. A refuge from drum-machines & inane lyrics, "The Crossing" is rock music of strength, hope, & thought.
