Culture Club, "Kissing To Be Clever" / 1982 Review by: Claude Carpentieri
Culture Club's debut LP proved that there was more to it than the beautiful and nonetheless radical image portrayed by Boy George. "Kissing to be Clever" offers interesting indications: hints of dub and ska in the wonderful "Love Twist", funk in "White Boy" and danceable semi-caribbean pop refrains ("I'll Tumble For You"). Add Boy George's lyrics to the equation and you realise that the million selling single "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" is only one component of an extremely interesting album.
