Prince and the Revolution, "Purple Rain" / 1984 Review by: Jenn Love
This is Prince at the height of his popularity, and when I, as a green 13 year old, really caught the vapors (see "Biz Markie"). You probably know most of the songs from the movie, but did you know that this is one of the main albums that made Tipper Gore start up the PMRC (Parent's Music Resource Center) which initiated the labeling of albums with what they considered to be "obscene" lyrics? You should own it for that reason alone. That said, this is a little more "rock/pop" than "funk". Contains the classics "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy" and "Purple Rain". But it also contains what I consider to be Prince's best song ever, period, "The Beautiful Ones". Any man dedicates that song to me, he's got me, hands down.
