Slayer, "Reign in Blood" / 1986 Review by: Brian Giffin
Still setting the benchmark for extreme heavy metal over a decade after it was released, Reign in Blood was the first Slayer album to receive decent production which further emphasised their violently aggressive, patented sound. Pumping hellfire and gore, the album blitzed by in just under half an hour with most songs clocking in under three minutes, drenched with breakneck speed guitar solos and dripping blood lyrics of cartoon violence. "Angel of Death" with its reprehensible lyrical content and the rampaging "Raining Blood", covered since by just about every metal band to grace a stage, served as bookends to this collection of unbridled brutality and menace, an undisputed classic of the genre.

10 out of 10.
