The Smiths, "Hatful of Hollow" /
1984?
Review by: Posh Duncan
"Hatful of Hollow" is the Smiths B-Sides and rarities album, so by rights it should be a cobbled-together stopgap release. Hardly. In actual fact it is probably the Smiths most cohesive musical statement, a stunning display of all the things that make them great. Just listen to the astonishingly fine guitar work of sexy fuck Johnny Marr, ably supported by the other two. Then when you`ve recovered pay some attention to the lyrics on tracks such as "William It Was Really Nothing", "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" and "Reel Around The Fountain". Pay special attention to this record, it's a real grower. 9.5/10
