Top Ten Lists of Eighties Movies

The concept is pretty easily, pick your ten favorite movies from the eighties. The hard part? I want JUST movies from the eighties, not movies you might have seen during the eighties. Also, try and avoid movies that came out after the eighties if possible, 1990 is pretty borderline, I won't scream too loudly if you add one that is from then...

  • 10. The Goonies
This was sort of a fun, prop movie. Far-fetched but entertaining. The scene where Chunk has his arm in a blender and confesses his deeds is hilarious!!
  • 9. Some Kind of Wonderful
This film was a bit pretentious, but then again, so were the 80's. Some lines in the movie would never have been heard by senior high kids...maybe college kids. HOWEVER, I LOVE THE 80'S. Craig Scheiffer and Eric Stoltz were easy on the eyes, as was the film itself...LOt's of tender moments in this film...especially the one where Watts kisses Keith in the garage.
  • 8. Weird Science
You just had to love those two losers, Gary and Wyatt. Their desperate need for popularity was something that you could identify with when you were 15 and 16!
  • 7. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Very funny movie, Matthew Broderick WAS Ferris! Jennifer Grey scared even the bravest of us!
  • 6. Top Gun
"Goose-you big STUD! Take me to bed or lose me forever!" "I feel the need, the need for speed!" "We flipped him the finger...you know...the BIRD?" Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis...need I say more?
  • 5. Lucas
I sort of liked Kerri Green in this movie. She also starred in my number 10 pick, and we didn't really hear alot about her after this. Corey Haim played Lucas to perfection, and a valuable lesson was learned: we looked kind of silly in the 80's.
  • 4. Lost Boys
I thought this movie was sexy. Jamie Gertz shone and Jason Patric was very appealing. The concept of this movie was not unheard of, but terrific, nonetheless.
  • 3. Pretty in Pink
The plot on this movie was predictable, but the soundtrack, the acting and Duckie's dance tribute to Otis Redding made this film one of my faves.
  • 2. Karate Kid
Who DIDN'T want to be Daniel Laruso and Alli? And who could forget Mr. Myagi? "BONZAI!"
  • 1. Breakfast Club
The absolute epitamy of the 80's films. This film reached EVERYONE!
The 80's itself has become somewhat of a cult I am proud of being a part of. Style and attitude made this decade separate from any other decade! The 90's were a big, Politically Correct mess!

John Candy was excellent in this role
  • 9. The Goonies

  • 9. Ferris Bueller's day Off
"I don't trust that kid any futher than I can throw him." "Well you shouldn't throw anybody with your bad back Ed"
  • 8. One Crazy Summer
"Egg...were you the little fat boy?" "No...no I used to like to pick on him though, I would grab him, and shake him, and say why are you so fat, why are you so fat and I'd beat the sh*t out of him!" I love the Stork Twins"
  • 7. Better Off Dead
"Well you'll make a fine little helper, what's your name?" "Charles Demar" Classic!! Curtis Armstrong is one of the most underated actors of the 80's
  • 6. Breakfast Club
Probably the best film ever dealing with the teenage hell we all had to go through. I think the acting in this movie was excellent. I once had an assingment in college to watch the Breakfast Club, and the main thing we were to watch for was the use of stereo types, and then write an essay about it. Well needless to say I could not stop writing. Rent it some night (if you don't own it) and watch how John Hughes put stereotypes into every character, and each of there relations with the others...It is incredible.
  • 5. Sixteen Candles
I almost cried when Anthony Micheal Hall dances with Molly Ringwald. Then afterward he is so smooth he turns it around on her and says "I'm sorry about that back there, I had no idea you couldn't dance." CLASSIC

    "Chet, My name is Chet,...and I didn't think it was a whale's d*ck honey"
  • 3. Johnny Be Good
"Oh no not his GEORGE" I love this movie! The acting between Anthony Micheal Hall and Robert Downey JR. is laugh out loud funny!
  • 2. National Lampoon's Vacation
"Gee dad you must of jumped this thing about fifty yards." "Aw it's nuthin to be proud of Russ...humph fifty yards!"
  • 1. Caddyshack
"Cannon ball...cannon ball 'comin" Bill Murray is the best!
Anthony Micheal Hall is my favorite actor, even still today. I think that is pretty evident since 5 of his movies made my top 10. I also have to acknowledge Bill Murray, he just may be the funniest man alive.
