Though is a bit girly, it's a great song.

A wired song, but also a great one. Excellent in the past and can be heard in the present too.
- 6. Maniac by Michael Sembello
Another party song that you must play in your party. Nice girl in the video.
- 5. Don't You Want Me Baby by Human League
Awesome song. It's a pitty that there are some better songs and that's why it's not number one.
- 4. You Spin Me Round (like A Record) by Dead Or Alive

These guys are wierdos, but they had a unique sound and style that separated them from everyone else. To this day their style is in a catagory of its own.

- 5. 99 Luft Balloons by Nena
The English version. Well... because I don't understand the other one. /shrug
- 4. Cars by Gary Numan
Another definitive sound of the 80's era of music. I wonder if this guy ever had any other hits.
- 3. Safety Dance by Men Without Hats
Midieval midgets FTW! Notice the lead guy talks down to people who don't dance, but he's the only one that never dances throughout the whole video... strange.
- 2. Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners
I love this song. I don't know much about the band but for some reason Im under the impression that they're from Ireland or somewhere like that.
- 1. Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics
The synthetic music and female vocals pretty much overall define 80's sound. If one song could represent 80's music to me this would be the one.
As someone else mentioned, I too love the 80's generation of music so much I can easilly make a list of 100. In fact I compiled an 8 disc set of all my favorites. About 150 songs that never get tired of listening to. Contact cityratt at hotmail if you might be interested in a copy of my "80's Generation" 8 disc set.

Now, that is a list if there was a number 11 it would have been When It's Over by Loverboy. Huey Lewis & The News was Great also. Now I hope that all the songs were in 80s as it is the year 2006 and am only 14 so I wasn't born yet. I do have a question what were you people thinking dressing like that what is ya get dressed in the dark. The Generation that I live into today dress worst (besides me). The music back then was a lot better too. Loverboy has to be the best band ever. :p

To me, the 80's were more a single driven time than the more album oriented 70's. That is much reflected by the fact that there is much more variation in everyone's 80's list. Also of note is the fact that Progressive rock which dominated the 70's album wise took a back seat to harder rock, particularly metal in its various forms and pop.

It seems that the art of a concept album is a hting of the past and most collectiosn we get today are simply thta... a collection of songs that don't tie together and are driven by what the companies think will sell... too bad. How much creativity have the companies stifled?
