- 10. Appetite by Prefab Sprout
Very mellow, but very moving.
- 9. Spy In The House Of Love by The db's
Funky, cool, and much better than all the other songs of the same name.
- 8. Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
Sure, Boingo had better songs, but none summed up the 80's Experience quite so well.
- 7. Stabilizers by Tyranny
The theme song for Angry Young Men everywhere.
- 6. Positively Lost Me by Rave-Ups
Another new wave classic- if you were listening to Huey Lewis in the 80's instead of songs like this, you need to be slapped. Hard.
- 5. She's A Beauty by The Tubes
It took me ten years to finally realize what this song is REALLY talking about.
- 4. Rain by Dragon
Okay, if you haven't heard this song, get on Napster and FIND IT. It's the quintessential mid-80's new wave song.
- 3. Split Endz by Six Months In A Leaky Boat
I'd hate to think that I'm the only person that remembers these song. Yes, "Forever Young" was great, but somebody has to keep the Post Modern flame alive.
- 2. Peter Gabriel by I Don't Remember, I Don't Recall
Remember back before Peter Gabriel sold his soul to the Pop Music gods? This was probably his last truely great song.
- 1. Swamp Thing by Chameleons UK
This just might be the best song of ANY decade. Sadly, now it's regulated to Goth Night at your local dance club, for reasons that elude me. When they sing "Another revolutionary falls from grace" it ALWAYS gives me chills.
My friends, we cannot allow the world to believe that the music of the 80's consisted solely of Cindy Lauper and "Whip It" by Devo. The mid 80's was the most incredible moment in music ever. Let us not forget music like: Euphoric Trapdoor Shoes - Plasticland Pretending To Be Drunk - Sparks Left Of Center - Suzanne Vega Visage - Fade To Grey Furor - Doot Doot Thompson Twins - Roll Over Again Romeo Void - A Girl In Trouble And a thousand others who equally deserve to be named.

An often-bashed song, but it should be a favourite just for the video (furry freaks, gold skullcaps and hare krishnas just seem to make things complete, don't they?) The song itself is great, too, and is probably the best thing on Waking Up With The House On Fire

How come no-one I know knows who she is? She is /THE/ diva of the 80s, and this was one of her best, even if it didn't do that well chart-wise.
- 2. Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler
OK, Nicki French's version is better to dance to, but this is a great song to mope to when your boyfriend turns out to be a cheating bastard... sorry, where was I?
- 1. Time (Clock of the Heart) by Culture Club
I love this, and It's a shame it didn't get onto the 'grey' version of Kissing To Be Clever (the one I've got)

By: Donn H
- 10. Obsession by Animotion
looks, sounds, production, concept, this tune and video had it all.
- 9. More than this by Roxy music
Like their english counterpart and my personal favorite Talk Talk, "More than this" is a 80's lovers dream come true. Laden with sweet synth textures and honey dripping melody, this song moves me to this day.
- 8. Send me an angel by Real life
What a shame this underrated song did not get the MTV play it deserved.
- 7. The metro by Berlin
I have one word for you concerning this song: Programming. The synth work on this tune is simply among the very best that can be acheived. From the Kraftwerk inspired synth textures to the melodies themselves, Berlin succeeded in creating a very dark, very German atmosphere.
- 6. Sweet dreams are made of this by Eurythmics
Who would have thought that Annie Lennox really had true vocal talent from this tune (though she still sounded good.) The synthed out cello lead was a stoke of genius in this song
- 5. Heat of the moment by Asia
Perhaps a song people are afraid to mention for fear of criticism but hey, this song turned heads. It is also stamped eternally on the memories of all early and mid eighties MTVer's, and in my opinion, is a better tune than it's wimpy cousin "Only time will tell."
- 4. Hungry wolf by X
Yes you read right. Not DD's "HLTW." The band X could have done great things but seem the victims of poor marketing. Hungry Wolf is a bit campy, but the raw punk/new wave/retro style is fresh and exiting.
- 3. I melt with you by Modern english
Talk about "era defining." The vocal style alone launched a thousand clones.
- 2. Don't Change for me by INXS
Pure energy. Well penned lyrics and anthemic melody.
- 1. It's my life by Talk Talk
This whole album is dynamite. Not a weak song song on it.

This was one of those songs you went cruising with your friends, drinking beer to! the best song these guys ever put out!
- 5. Physical by Olivia Newton-John
The number one single of the decade! A lot of people laugh at it now, but if you could have been there when the lightning struck! the song had an original sound, rhythm, and an agressive sexuality that had not been expressed by a woman before!!! And she's still Hot!!
- 4. Bad Reputation by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
the best rocksong of the decade(only my opinion!)
- 3. Friends and Lovers(Both to Each Other) by Gloria Loring and Carl anderson
probably the number one wedding song of the 80's, some might find it schmaltzy today, but it still seems sweet to me
