Top Ten Lists of Eighties Movies

The concept is pretty easily, pick your ten favorite movies from the eighties. The hard part? I want JUST movies from the eighties, not movies you might have seen during the eighties. Also, try and avoid movies that came out after the eighties if possible, 1990 is pretty borderline, I won't scream too loudly if you add one that is from then...

  • 10. Sword And The Sorcerer
That 3 bladed sword that could launch it's blade was the best!
  • 9. Time Bandits
Really weird fantasy/time travel movie made by some Monty Python guys.
  • 8. Conan The Barbarian
    Arnold Swarzaneger-"Crush your enemies".

  • 3. E.T.
This is the ultimate movie to say you grew up in the '80's.
  • 2. River's Edge
Starring an almost unknown (at the time) Keanu Reeves, but the show was made great by the superb acting of Crispin Glover who played Layne. Very dark, atmospheric movie.
  • 1. Willow
I love this movie like no other. It's just magical, and non-stop adventure. Warwick Davis is a great actor.
As you can see, most of my fave movies are Fantasy, and that's the way it should be. The '80's had the best fantasy films.

  • 10. Clue
One of the most ingenius movies ever made! When it was at the theaters, you could choose which ending you wanted to see. The video version has all three endings.
  • 9. When Harry Met Sally
One of the best "date movies" of all time and one you can watch over and over again and find something new everytime.
  • 8. Footloose
The original dance movie and the one with by far the best soundtrack.
  • 7. Uncle Buck
Again, John Candy always steals the show in any movie he is in but a younger Maculey Culkin gives him a run for his money.
  • 6. Adventures in Babysitting
All teenage girls were hoping they would never go through what Elisabeth Shue went through during this movie. However, being a heroine sounded pretty good to me.
  • 5. The 'burbs
Before Tom Hanks was an Oscar winning actor, he was a comedian who made this movie one of my all time favorites.
  • 4. The Great Outdoors
Anything with John Candy is a classic but this was by far his funniest flick.
  • 3. My Bloody Valentine
A somewhat unknown horror flick that is set around the holiday of love. This movie contains a human killer and not a monster which makes it very scary!
  • 2. Goonies
The ultimate adventure. Even as an adult, I wish I could experience an adventure like they did.
  • 1. Dirty Dancing
This is one of those movies that is so good, it makes you wished you had lived it!

the 80's was the best decade(for movies as well)
By: Jimmy Sanderson
  • 10. Red Dawn
A pretty scary show, but great action and as kids you would watch Red Dawn and then go out and play like you were Jed, Matt and the gang taking out the Russians.
  • 9. Princess Bride
A great story. Plus Andre the Giant is in it.
  • 8. Ghostbusters
Great show that has some classic scenes, like Winston breaking out with "I've seen s*** that will turn you white" to the mayor.
  • 7. Pretty in Pink
Has a killer soundtrack and again is another great high school show from the 80's
  • 6. Sixteen Candles
Another good 80's high school flik. Anthony Michael Hall was the classic geek and Long Duck Dong is hilarious.
  • 5. Goonies
Every kid's dream adventure come tru. Plus the characters are absolutely great. Chunk is the best, and there are so many great lines, a show that you can watch again and again.
  • 4. Iron Eagle
Louis Gosset is awesome as Chappy. He has some very, very good lines. Plus how cool is it to fly a jet over and pick up your dad and kick some bad guys butts at the same time. Every kid dreams of doing that type of thing.
  • 3. Empire Strikes Back
It's hard to talk about the 80's and not mention Star Wars. This is the best of the trilogy, with Leia finally admitting she loves Han and the Empire showing how bad they are, plus Luke learns Vader is his father. Furthers the storyline a lot.
  • 2. The Breakfast Club
Typifies everything the 80's is about. Has lots of humor and drama and is just an all around classic show.
  • 1. Karate Kid
You can watch this show over and over and it never gets old. The Cobra Kais have to be the coolest guys ever! Plus Daniel's wardrobe is very smooth and the line "Hey its' the 80's" is simply classic.
All I can say is the 80's rule! I was only in grade school during them, but there has never been or ever will be a cooler decade with as many good movies and music as the 80's.

  • 10. Some Kind of Wonderful
Didn't see this movie until the 90s; wow, I can't believe I missed it. Touching.
  • 9. Real Genius
One night, after working late on our chemistry theses, some classmates of mine and I flipped in this movie...I forgot how good it was.
  • 8. The Breakfast Club
One day, when home from college, I substituted at my old high school and supervised in-school suspension in our school's weight room. Instead of Simple Minds, they were all listening to Eminem and Limp Bizkit...there's just no comparison to the 80s.
  • 7. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Didn't everyone have a principal like this?
  • 6. The Goonies
I wanted to be Data when I was 8 years old.
  • 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark
Didn't everyone consider majoring in archaelogy when they arrived at college?
  • 4. Karate Kid
In the year following the film, I took Tae Kwon Do lessons every Saturday morning and earned a yellow stripe belt. I love how Johnny hands the trophy over to Daniel at the end of the movie.
  • 3. Return of the Jedi
There once was time when I slept on Ewok sheets and played with my plastic light saber after school.
  • 2. Wall Street
"Money never sleeps pal", "Greed is good", "The richest 1% of this country owns 50% of the nation's wealth"--Gordon Gekko, a true 80s corporate raider. People still slick their hair back on Wall Street in homage to Gekko the Great; life truly imitates drama.
  • 1. Wargames
Video games, ancient computers, new wave music, rebellious youth, spaced out parents, cold war mania...this movie defines the 80s. "How about a nice game of chess?"
In 1990 I left junior high and the greatest days of my life behind. Apart from the Internet and a couple good movies and albums, the nineties truly sucked.
