Top Ten Lists of Eighties Movies

The concept is pretty easily, pick your ten favorite movies from the eighties. The hard part? I want JUST movies from the eighties, not movies you might have seen during the eighties. Also, try and avoid movies that came out after the eighties if possible, 1990 is pretty borderline, I won't scream too loudly if you add one that is from then...

  • 10. Ghost
Good movie, not the best but up there.
  • 9. Back To The Future
Can watch over and over again. Part 2 is just as good, however part 3 was a major let down, I almost fell asleep watching it, the Old west is a boring storyline, it wasn't funny or capture the time travelling theme as well as the first 2 parts, I was also very dissapointed by the ending to the trilogy. don't u think so?
  • 8. Cocktail
Good movie, the charcters are likeable especially Coglin, the sad ending is excellent, too many movies are merely good because they go for the happy ending where the main character doesn't die e.g. Far and away, Cocktail has the good ending.
  • 7. Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure
Great escapism movie, funny and re-watchable. The sequel Bill and Ted's Bogus journey is suprisingly good (at times)
  • 6. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Very watchable movie, over and over again. The ending credits are good as well as when Ferris comes in at the end after the credits "what are u still doing here? its over go home"
  • 5. Running On Empty
Great movie and acting by River Pheonix, if u haven't seen it yet rent it now
  • 4. The Breakfast Club
Great movie, u can laugh, cry and relate to one or a combination of the characters all at the same time. Some of the scenes piss me off though, especially the sympathy scenes by Bender and the gun in the locker story by tha geek played by anthony michael hall, these scenes are uncessary.
  • 3. Big Trouble in little China
Great escapism movie with the mystical Chinese underworld etc. Probably not one of my favourites at the moment, but has to come in at near the top after all the times i watched it.
  • 2. The Karate Kid
Daniel is a great, realistic and likeable character, the plot realistic. Captures the theme of high school bullying with the obvious but enjoyable ending. The sequels are hideous and reflect poorly on the original.
  • 1. Weired Science
Two of the best characters ever created in Gary and Wyatt, both are nerds but have admirable qualities and i would hang out with them. The movie inspires and is tha best. Good to watch when your feeling down. I wish John Hughes would have made a sequel.
Honourable mentions: Pump up the volume, The last emporer, Coming to America, Boyz 'n' tha Hood, Night before, Can't buy me love, Buffy the vampire slayer and Mannequin. I haven't seen Say anything or Stand by me yet, but look forward to renting them after all the mentions by others.

I want a hamburger, no cheeseburger. I want a hot dog, I want a milkshake, I want potato chips---YOU'LL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!!!!! Easily comedy heaven. Ty Webb, Al Czervik, Carl the greenskeeper, Judge Smails, Noonan, Spaulding, the gopher, Lainie...so memorable.
  • 2. Die Hard
The decade's best action film did for the 80's what classics like The French Connection and Dirty Harry did for the 70's. It's a very simple concept: Take The Towering Inferno, add terrorists and replace a firefighter with an LAPD sergeant, and you have this.
  • 1. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Definitely one of the funniest movies in the past 20 years, and John Hughes' best film ever also. Steve Martin and John Candy provided excellent charisma as a latter-day Odd Couple, with an ad exec and a shower-curtain-ring salesman trying to get home to Chicago where there's a bad snowstorm. Also very quotable. Also makes you feel good all around.
Other favorites: Big Trouble in Little China, Trading Places, Star Trek IV, Temple of Doom/Last Crusade, Lethal Weapon. Plus Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club. The worst: The Presidio.
