Eighties Movie Locations That Really Exist, Movies Beginning with G
This is a list of places that are in movies, but have a real life counterpart.
Please try and be as specific as possible in describing where something is
and when it appears in a movie. I don't want just city names where filming
took place so much as I want landmark type buildings.

Stetson University. Parts of this 1981 flick were filmed at Stetson University and the City of Delanf, Florida.
The Famous Firehouse from this film is located at 14 N. Moore St. in Manhattan. Its near 6th Avenue and Canal St in Lower Manhattan.
The actual Ghostbusters firehouse is an old NYC firehouse more or less across from the current 1st Precinct mounted unit, just off Varick Street, near the exit into Manhattan of the Holland Tunnel.
The movie was shot mostly in Orange County, CA. The big final scene was, I think, shot in Long Beach, CA. The video store that Christian Slater's character's brother works at is in Little Saigon, Garden Grove, CA.
The high school scenes in this movie are shot at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, California.
Many of the early scenes were filmed in Savannah, Ga. When the troops are marching through Boston, this was actually River Street, and most of the buildings on one side were false buildings. The scene where he was offered the command is the house where the murder took place in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Where they are training the troops is an area just north of the historic district, close to the battlefield for the Revolutionary War battle. I haven't seen the movie in several years, so I cannot remember where everything was shot. The battle toward the end was filmed on Jekyll Island, if I remember correctly.
Mcdonough, georgia 30 miles south of atlanta. take I-75 south to jonesboro rd. exit east to mcdonough go 2 miles to kroger on right and that area is where a large battle scene was filmed with 100's of cast members and I watched them film some of it and also saw ferris come out of his trailer and do a scene.
The battle scenes of the assault on "Ft. Wagner" at the end of the movie were filmed on Jekyll Island, Georgia. In fact there is a "Glory Boardwalk". I believe that some outside scenes leading up to the battle were filmed there.
GoodFellas
The scene where Ray Liota is on the phone talking in fron of a store was filmed on Staten Island in the shopping center across from the Staten Island Mall. The store used to be a McCory's 5 & dime store but now is a fabric store.
Goodfellas
The scene when Henry pistol whips guy in driveway across the street from Karen's parents house. It is located down the street from Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle NY
Goodfellas
The scene where Karen is on a pay phone calling Henry and crying about her next door neighbor bothering her. Parking lot next to Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle NY
The beach scenes where Mikey matches the landmarks to the dubloon were and still exist in Seaside, OR at the Haystack Monolith. It looks exactly the same!
The house where Mikey and Brand lived is an actual house and the film was shot largely in Astoria, Oregon
Grandview USA
Filmed in and around Pontiac, Illinois. The bar with all the stuffed animals is BoB and Ringo's.
Grease
The carnival scene was also filmed at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles. So were parts of Zapped (originally slated as "Wiz Kid")
Grease
Venice High School, Venice Blvd.(between Centinella and Lincoln Blvds.), L.A., CA
The high school, at least the exterioirs & the carnival at the end were filmed at Exselsior High School in Norwalk California.
The parking lot scenes outside the bowling alley where filmed in the parking log of Norwalk Ice Arena, at the corner of Rosecrans and Shoemaker in Norwalk, California.
Rydell High is actually Excellsior High School (now a Korean church, I think) on NE corner of Norwalk Blvd. and Alondra Blvd. in Norwalk CA. (from Downtown L.A. take 5fwy south to 605 south, exist Alondra Blvd. eastbound about three miles.)
It was filmed at Bass Lake, Califonia.
Gremlins 2
The exterior shots of the office building that the Gremlins inhabit is 101 Park Avenue, Manhattan, NYC.
Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day was filmed mostly in Woodstock, IL. --- Gobblers Knob is actually "historic" downtown Woodstock. The house that Bill Murray lived in and the restaurant that he stuffed his face in are still there. The restaurant used in Groundhog Day is on the corner of this street.Since the movie's release, Woodstock has held a Groundhog Day celebration, complete with a live groundhog, every February 2nd. During the filming of the movie, the cast and crew were in Woodstock for quite some time, and they were simply super! Bill Murray and Chris Elliot, despite the fact that they're famous, were completely down-to-earth people you wouldn't mind as next door neighbors. Both of them could be found regularly mixing it up with the locals at local bars and restaurants. Too bad the same couldn't be said for Andie MacDowell and Harold Ramis.
