 0. Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my first newsletter, I'm still playing with the content and
the formatting. I welcome any comments you may have at:
chuck@worcestermass.com.

The format is straight ASCII, formated to 70 columns wide which
should accommodate most readers using most any mail package.
http://www.findmail.com/list/eighties/ contains the archive of the
newsletters.

I apologize for not sending out a newsletter before this. I got real
excited when I thought of how I wanted the newsletter to look, and
what it was going to contain. Then I got real busy with other
things on the site. Now that I've settled into the new website,
I feel I can start to put out a new newsletter each month. Plus
someone posted a message on my messageboard and I felt a bit
embarrassed that I had let it slip this long.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 1. Upcoming Eighties Events
--------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a java chat now on the website, open 24 hours a day. I
plan on being available most weeknights after 7pm EST. The link to
follow is: http://www.worcestermass.com/chat/chat.html

I'm taking votes on the 80s Christmas page for the best 80s Christmas
film of all time. I also added three non-80s movies to see how they
stand up. Cast your vote by Christmas!

 2. What's New at ChuckyG's?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm looking for pictures of people from the eighties, regular
ordinary people who visit the site. I'm planning to start a gallery
of pictures from site visitors, so if you have access to a scanner,
please send up a picture to me in email. You can remain anonymous
if you're too embarrassed by your hair >grin<.

You might notice forms at the bottom of most pages on the site. This
is in order to encourage people to send me info for each page. It has
been an overwhelming success, I now get twice the mail I used to, and
since the forms format the info in an easy to use format, I can add
information to the site quicker. I still respond to email sent
directly to me though, so don't think I'm trying to isolate people.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 3. Favorite Misheard Lyrics
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Since it's the Christmas season, I figured I would add a few
Christmas misheard lyrics:

"Silent Night"
Misheard Lyrics:
Run you virgins, mother and child
or
Round John virgin, mother & child

Correct Lyrics:
Round yon virgin, mother and child

You can find more Christmas misheard lyrics at:

 4. Interesting Email
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I got this in my guestbook today, so I'd like to share:

It's 3 in the morning, and as I browse the list of toys from the
80's, I gasp a breath as I reach each new item, for a rush of
memories floods my mind. I hadn't realized just how many things I
had forgotten in a short 15 years or so. I've always thought it odd
that I missed my childhood so much, and longed to be back in that
special time period. Comparing the world now to the 80's, it seems I
grew up on a different planet, or in a different universe all
together. It's nice to discover that the 80's represents something
so special to so many people.  I thank you for maintaining this page;
and for bringing so many cherished memories for me; and greetings to
all of you out there whom share my thoughts and feelings. Take care

Here is a followup that appeared about two hours later:

Hi!! I have to say I so totally agree to the last message posted..
The 80s was the most wonderful time there has ever been... and the
90s just doesn't measure up. I grew up in the 80s, and I have nothing
but the best of memories for the whole decade. I loved the music, the
TV and the Movies.... I love the style of the 80s.... like MTV (the
way it used to be).... the 80s was a terrific time to grow up.... I
wonder what I'd be like if I grew up in another decade... I dunno...
probably pretty much the same... but I wouldn't carry all those
precious memories around in my head... I'd definitely miss those....

"Bow Wow Wow's Greatest Hits"

"Children, I've got to warn ya... because I've been to California...
Where Mickey Mouse is such a demon, where Mickey Mouse is as big as a
house!

Most Americans won't remember Bow Wow Wow past their one stateside
hit, the cover of the Strangelove's "I Want Candy" which is highly
unfortunate. Brought to you by Malcom McLaren who also brought the
Sex Pistols into notoriety, Bow Wow Wow featured most of Adam Ant's
backing band and a 14 year girl straight out of a dry cleaners. Bow
Wow Wow's music consisted of tribal beats and the shouting of lead
singer Annabella Lwin in catchy upbeat songs. Despite the abysmal
chart performance outside of their one hit, Bow Wow Wow's music
exemplifies the spirit of the new wave sound. Their music is upbeat
and sounds unlike most any of their piers.

The greatest hits album is for the most part the majority of the
recorded works of the band, or at least enough for most any fan of
theirs. Chances are pretty good that if you like at least two or
three of their songs, you'll like the rest, as they don't stray too
much from one another stylistically. Also featured here are a couple
of Annabella's first solo songs.

I recommend this album to anyone who feels a little adventurous.
Bow Wow Wow recently toured again this year, and is planning on
releasing a live album from the tour, as well as a new studio album
soon.

 8. Featured Web Site This Month
--------------------------------------------------------------------
A cool new site I just discovered is at: http://www.trouserpress.com.
This is the home of the original Trouser Press guide to New Wave,
since this book is no longer in print (and the magazine is 15+ years
dead) the author has made it's contents available in a searchable
index. I highly recommend checking it out. It doesn't appear to be
the entire contents of the book, some key hard to find artists
weren't in the index (like Total Coleo) but the info that was there
on most anyone else was certainly complete.
