1. Upcoming Eighties Events
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Watch for Anthony Micheal Hall as Bill Gates in May on TNT. It's a
big stretch for him to play a geek since he always played such
macho characters in the 80s. >GRIN< For those who forget who AMH
is, he played Brian in the "Breakfast Club" and the geek in
"Sixteen Candles."
Someone recently stated that they heard a rumour that Toni Basil
of "Hey Mickey" fame was releasing a new album soon, has anyone
else heard anything? I'll keep you up to date on this one.
The J. Geils Band is rumoured to be talking about a reunion tour
this summer. Usually Peter Wolf has been responsible for squashing
all talk of a reunion tour, but this time around, the only no-show
looks to be their drummer who has a bad back and is not interested
in doing a reunion tour.

2. What's New at ChuckyG's?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd like to take a quick moment and remind everyone again there is
a new messageboard at ChuckyG's. It's getting about 80 messages a
week according to it's stats. Stop by and check it out:
http://www.inthe00s.com/
Saturday Morning TV Schedules, spanning the entire decade with links
to descriptions of each show. This is a somewhat interesting page
to browse over and see what you used to watch in the mornings.
I also reformatted all the bands of the 80s, and have started adding
pictures for all the bands. I also re-arranged all the bands in
the links page, which helps to make it a little more browsable. If
you have a favorite 80s related web site that isn't in the links
section, I encourage you to use the program to add it to the
database, it's very simple to do. Next month, the links page will
have a new rank feature to allow people to rank their favorite
pages. So be sure to check back!

4. Favorite Top Ten List

By LUKE SEXY MF KEINZLEY
10. Ghostbusters
What a combination! Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ivan Reitman! an
absolute classic, unchallenging, fun and highly enjoyable! who would
have thought that marshmallow could be so destructive?
9. Gremlins
One of my personal favourites and I think if they'll admit it, it's
everyone's favourite. ignore the dissapointing sequel, sit back and
enjoy a veritable feast, but make sure you watch it before midnight!
who could forget the cinema scene? pure cinematic brilliance!
8. Nightmare On Elm Street
The thing that makes this film so great and seperate from all the
other tired slasher movies of that time was the originality of the
killer, a dead guy in your dreams as opposed to a guy in a mask with
a knife, it had been done so many times before and this was a
refreshing and new idea. stars the wonderfully marvellous Johnny
Depp.
7. The Evil Dead
Tiny budget, took four years to make but it was worth it! the
goriest, most violent and at the same time genuinely funny horror
film. this film requires a strong stomach and a sick sense of humour!
Stars the brilliant Bruce Campbell
6. Beetlejuice
Again Tim Burton works his magic, a fantastic, side splittingly
hilarious ghost story with great characterisation and a wonderful
performance from Keaton as the title character. wonderful visual
effects, essential to any collection.
5. The Sure Thing
JOHN CUSACK!!!!! this man is the bees knees and I am yet to see him
in a film that I don't like! this is the definitive 80's teen flick
with a wonderful performance from Cusack. the magic of this movie is
that his character is so charming and likable but sensitive as well.
a lovely gushy ending, the perfect late night beer movie, curl up
with your boy/girlfriend, whatever your preference! For more cusack
at his best check out Con Air and the fantastic Grosse Pointe Blank.
4. Batman
The mighty Tim Burton at his best, with an unusual choice for the
part of Batman, he chose Michael Keaton who before this was a stand
up comedian. however, Keaton took on the role and made it his own in
a truly memorable performance as the Dark Knight. this is the best of
them all, Batman Returns is a very good sequel but avoid the other
two like the plague. Batman Forever is tolerable but only because it
has a slight Burton influence due to him producing it.
3. Aliens
Another classic starring Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton. one of James
Camaron's best films before he went all commercial with that crap
money making machine that went by the name of TITANIC. fantastic
special effects for the era and not one to watch while eating.
2. The Terminator
A stunning piece of science fiction/action, although far fetched,
this film is very prophetic what with the scientific advances we have
made since it's release in 1984, it is also responsible for bringing
Michael Biehn to my attention."I'll be back" became a household
quote!
1. An American Werewolf In London
The pure genius of this film was John Landis' ability to make the
comedy moments hilarious and the horror moments terrifying thus
providing the perfect combination of the two preventing it from
becoming cheesy.

5. Review Of The Month
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Van Hallen, "Van Hallen"
Ok, this is a borderline album, it comes out in 1978, but it is
after all the introduction to one of the best known groups of the
80s and early 90s. Forget all the bickering that goes on with
Eddie and whichever lead singer of the moment is in/out of the group.
When this album came out, there wasn't much on the radio that sounded
quite like it. Eddie is one of the best guitar players of the
80s, and this album showcases his inventive sound on a lot of tracks
that almost seemed to be written to show it off. David Lee Roth
showcases his trademark screams even on this album. The length of
the album is a bit short, clocking in at 35 minutes, and with the
fast pace of the songs, it can almost seem to go by in an instant.
Forget their greatest hits album, if you want the best music from
this group, buy this album and 1984 and you've just about summed it
up.
