 0. Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, and I really hope you got a
chance to watch VH-1 during the New Year's weekend, since they
played a lot of stuff from the 80's. They don't appear to play
the Big 80s anymore, but at least they have cool documentaries and
Pop-Up Video is good for a chuckle now and then. The Where Are They
Now? series also has a lot of eighties performers too..

This is only the second newsletter, so I'm still trying to get the
hang of writing a newsletter (and be disciplined enough to send it
out each month). As always, I welcome any comments you may have at:
chuck@worcestermass.com.

This is not spam, you asked to be subscribed! To unsubscribe, send a

 1. Upcoming Eighties Events
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The rumours for this spring's tour season so far are:

Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, back together for a tour.

Poison, Def Leppard and Whitesnake getting together for a tour.

The original Go-Go's lineup are also talking about a possible reunion
and tour, this would be all 5 original members (I think one person
wasn't with the group last time).

There is a java chat now on the website, open 24 hours a day. I
plan on being available most weeknights after 7pm EST. The link to
follow is: http://www.worcestermass.com/chat/chat.html You must be
using Netscape 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0 or better.

 2. What's New at ChuckyG's?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I've started a new jokes of the 80s page, for all those tasteless
jokes you used to tell about Yugo's and Ronald Reagan, it's at:
http://www.worcestermass.com/80s/jokes.html I'm looking for
submissions, so feel free to send in some jokes.

Two this month...

I'm working on a short story set in 1985. I was only 19 at the
time, and generally intoxicated, so I don't remember as much as
I'd like. Your storehouse of eighties info will prove invaluable. I
appreciate your hard work in preserving a most bizarre decade. Thank
You, Jennifer Knox

:and:

Hey!! I love the 80's! Even though I was too young to really get to
enjoy the 80's, I had my first broken heart, my first favorite band,
my first concert (without my parents), which was Loverboy and the
Hooters when I was in the 6th grade!!! I think the 80's music
rocked!!! Boy, things just aren't the same, especially the music and
above all MTV. All I had to go home from after school was MTV. So,
I miss "Remote Control" and "Friday Night Video Fights", and BIG
HAIR!!! I graduated in the class of 1992 and always held on to the
events that helped shape my life and the music from the 80's. My
friends used to say that I was stuck in the 80's, with my big hair
and makeup and clothes and the music I listened to. Who saw "The
Wedding Singer?" I sure did!! I thought Drew's hair needed to be a
little bigger than that. Did anyone else? TTFN

 5. Favorite Top Ten List
--------------------------------------------------------------------

By Chris O'Neal

10. Belinda Carlisle, "Heaven is a Place on Earth"
The video is really what got me hooked. Very cool video, cool
     lady, cool song too.
9. David Bowie, "Let's Dance"
Makes you want to pull the car over and get out on the street
     and dance.
8. Wham, "Wake Me Up Before You GoGo"
Another one of those shameful fun ones.
7. Toni Basil, "Mickey"
Hilarious, stupid, but great. One of those songs that you're
almost ashamed to admit that you liked.
6. Scritti Politti, "Perfect Way"
Just a cool, poppy, snappy song.
5. Chaka Khan, "I Feel for You"
I love her huge hair and huge voice and this is a great song.
4. Peter Gabriel, "Shock the Monkey"
I have no idea why this song is so good, it just is.
3. 10,000 Maniacs, "Like the Weather"
     Different sound but very nice.
2. Billy Idol, "Dancin With Myself"
     Cool dude, cool music.
1. The Go-Go's, "Our Lips Are Sealed, Vacation, Head Over Heels
All the Go-Go's songs just sum up the good vibes of the 80's.

I miss all those groups and singers - Billy Idol, Go-Go's, A-Ha, Bon
Jovi, etc. When music was fun, sometimes had a message, sometimes not
- it didn't matter. Music was just written to be good. Today's music
for the most part depresses me!?!

 6. Review Of The Month
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The B-52's "Greatest Hits"

An excellent party disc, with very few weak tracks through out. The
B-52's have always worked well as a band you can dance to, and this
disc helps to cement that in your head (and your feet). The disc
proceeds chronologically, and towards the end you do notice a change
in their sound. The original unreleased mix of "Summer of Love" is
here for the first time (that I know of) and I would have to say I'd
prefer the original released mix since I think it would fit the
overall disc better. I started losing interest around the "Deadbeat
Club" since I don't really think of it as a hit for the band, and it
doesn't have the same uptempo beat as the songs around it, the same
holds true for "Roam," though that was definately a big hit for the
group. "Debbie" is one of their new songs that was recorded for this
compilation, and I have to say I like it, even though I didn't hear
it get much airplay. At 79 minutes, it's a long disc, and worth a
listen. 4 out 5.

Track List:
1. Planet Claire 10. Summer of Love
2. 52 Girls 11. Channel Z
3. Rock Lobster 12. Deadbeat Club
4. Party Out Of Bounds 13. Love Shack
5. Stobelight 14. Roam
6. Private Idaho 15. Good Stuff
7. Quiche Lorraine 16. Is That You Mo-Dean?
8. Mesopotamia 17. Debbie
9. Song For a Future Generation 18. Hallucinating Pluto

The Press Your Luck web page.
http://studentweb.tulane.edu/~bfranci/pylhist.htm

Talk about a great game show, and oh so 80s. Now there is an
excellent web site to back it up. There's a complete list of all the
prizes won and offered, the story of the largest prize total for a
single day on a game show in the TV history, and various sounds from
the show. There's also a gallery of the people who were contestants
on a reqular basis. If they could only put some animated "Whammy's"
on the site, it would be complete. A must see.
