From "Captain Kangaroo" over CBS (4/21/66), a demonstration on how to prepare Rice Krispie Treats by the captain, with "help" from Bunny Rabbit and Mister Moose. Call it a four-minute commercial, as Kellogg's likely paid Bob Keeshan to do the skit. The show was still taped in black & white (until 1/67) then. Cartoons of "Tom Terrific" and "Lariat Sam" (created by Keeshan, for the show) were still shown. All this ended in 1970, as the multi-minute commercial was, under pressure, phased out. The network and Keeshan were also compelled to drop the cartoons, though they were non-violent. Action for Children's TV pressed for all live-action kid shows to be more education and less entertainment. Another victim of this was the franchised, local "Bozo" shows, namely on Chicago's WGN, by 1975. Going back to "Captain Kangaroo," the captain succeeded in making the Rice Krispie Treats, but half the Treasure House was a disastrous mess. thanks to Moose and Bunny.
