The influential wide-at-top-narrow-at-bottom heel shape in the first half of the 80s was called a cone heel, tapering smoothly from top to bottom like a cone. 1950s-style, abruptly narrowing and extremely thin stiletto-style heels became more common in the second half of the decade, though vintage versions had been worn by punks and some others since the late 70s.
