Description
Sex: Female
Type of clothing: Dresses/ Skirts
When it was popular: 1980s
Description: Laura Ashley was a very expensive clothing line of frou-frou dresses-very girly, mainly pastels and/or large flower patterns, with poofy sleeves to the elbow, full longer skirts and rounded, Peter Pan collars. Worn with white or pink hose and white ballet flats. Loosely related to Princess Diana's girly style in the '80s, before she went haute couture. Also a line of interior design items like curtains and wallpaper. Laura Ashley Mecca was on Oxford Street in London if I recall correctly.

I recall the Laura Ashley dresses from the 80's very well. I had a couple around age 11-12. Now you can often find Laura Ashley home goods in resale stores or close out stores and they last forever. I've purchased some of them (without floral prints of course). I don't know if Laura Ashley still makes fashions though.

Despite the less-than favorable description above, I loved Laura Ashley. My mom would take us to the next "city" to go to the boutique and we had dresses, pants, sorts, tops, etc. I wore Laura Ashley throughout college and had some of their interior design. Like Angela says, Laura Ashley is at resale stores, and I've also seen Laura Ashley clothing--though not to the original quality--in Elder-Beerman department stores.

I absolutely adore the charming and winsome dresses made by Laura Ashley in the 1980s, as Christa said, DESPITE the rather unfavourable description given by the webmaster. I have seven or eight lovely dresses which, if I had the freedom to dress as I please and not wear jeans for work, I would wear all of the time.
