Dove Shorts came out after Dolphins in California. The Dove shorts though, were not as popular as the Dolphin brand. If it didn't have the dolphin, it was no good. Also, the cut was not as sexy as the Dolphin version.

The Dove label would also peel off so you could try to pass them off as another brand. In Hawaii, Dolphin's were also the best.

Dove shorts were the poor woman's Dolfin shorts. I believe they were a JC Penney knockoff of Dolfins and Lightening Bolt shorts. I know because I had a mom who didn't give a hoot about designer labels and thought the $6.99 Doves were just as good as the $15.00 Dolfins, so that's what I got.

I remember Dolfin shorts in junior high school, maybe even before! I was in jr. high from 1982-1984 so I was between 12-14 then. Dove was the "poor man's" version of Dolfins so of course I didn't wear those! (The was like wearing K-mart clothes back then.) I actually remember a pair of Lighting Bolt short that were green & white vertical striped that I wore! I know I had others but wasn't sure of the brand (definitely NOT Dove though).
