I was in third- or fourth grade when Madonna's "Lucky Star" video came out! Even at that young of an age, I was rockin' the "Madonna bow!" LOL =D

There were the kind Madonna wore (which people where I lived at the time called head wraps, for some reason) and there were the kind that were everywhere around 1985-87: big, pre-made bows slapped onto the back of the head over ponytails, so big that the sides of them stuck out on either side of the head from the front. Even girls with hair too short to make a proper ponytail would try to gather their hair into one just so they could wear the popular hair bow. The front of the hair was teased or spiked into a little pouf. Worn a lot with Laura Ashley drop-waist dresses and suits, but so popular for a while that you saw them worn with everything. We mocked them as "bowheads."

My hair bows were barrettes.
