Description
Sex: Female
Type of clothing: Clothing
When it was popular: 1983
Description: Jumpsuits ran the gamut from super casual cotton sweats to ultra sophisticated black georgette. No matter which style you chose, a VERY wide belt was essential to finish the look. My own sweat jumpsuit was pink and blue (baby colors...a la "Joe Jackson's song "Steppin' Out") with GIANT pink buttons and off the shoulder styling (A la "Flashdance"). I'd wear a wide, tightly-woven pink cotton belt and very lacy socks with bubble-gum pink plastic sneakers.

i had one that was black on the shirt part with puffy sleeves, the shirt part came down in a v shape, and went into parachute style pants that wear black with primary colored polka dots. i thought this was the best outfit ever. i was wrong. i looked like a clown.

In the 80s, we kind of thought of jumpsuits as "too 70s," since they'd been big in the first half of the 70s, flared and big-collared. But there were a few I remember female friends wearing in the 80s. Around 1981, a friend wore an army green, mercerized cotton one with big shoulders, a matching self-belt that she'd pull in tight, a front zipper, and tapered legs that she tucked into black suede, calf-high flat boots. Kind of Mugler-looking, but she wore it with gold leaf earrings and Siouxsie Sioux-style hair and makeup. Another friend in about 1984 had a broad-shouldered, neon/fluorescent green one that was made out of a paper-feeling cotton. It also had tapered legs and a front zipper. She wore it with a very wide, bright white leather belt and matching flat, white, winklepicker ankle boots with a silver zipper, very pointy-toed in late 50s style. Her hair was an impossible orange-red like Annie Lennox and she always wore 80s-style bright red lipstick.

Jumpsuits were fun, but it's difficult when you have to go to the bathroom!
