Description
Sex: Female
Type of clothing: Clothing
When it was popular: 1981-1983
Description: Western style, long skirts usually denim, with ruffles on the bottom. Some came with white lace trim on the bottom to look as if an old fashioned petticoat was hanging out. The tops (usually gingham checks) had big puffy sleeves and had two rows of ruffles down the front and/or back of the shirt and usually buttoned in two rows down the front). You could wear them over fancy, lacy underskirts and then pin, or tie them up so the underskirt showed(some had ties for this purpose.) Looked really cool with cowboy boots.

I recall this look and hated it. Some of those girls looked like Laura on "Little House.." I had a large chest, and looked ridiculous in those cotton blouses with HUGE ruffles on the front and leg-o-mutton sleeves. Popular in 1982-3, thankfully for not long.

hey, I STILL! love those skirts and was looking just yesterday, for a crocheted or knittes pattern for those skirts. I will wear mine with a plain white tank, thanks, and with flat heeled boots.

I had the blouses, not the skirts. Wasn't a flattering look for me- with my tightly curled, short hair, I looked like I was middle aged.

This look really hit big where I lived (Dallas) in fall of '81. Teenage girls wore ankle-length, denim prairie skirts with plaid blouses with leg-o-mutton sleeves and deep, ruffle-edged yoke under a collar buttoned high. I remember flat, metallic bronze leather boots, not cowboy boots, worn with. In the 70s, long skirts with a single ruffle at the bottom were sometimes called prairie skirts, too.

I kept one of mine i saved it cause my mom made it and my youngest a senior in high school wants to wear it. She likes the girly look. She also liked a couple of my short boxy jackets from same time period. Very vintage....who would have believed it back then;) what fun memories!
