Description: For a while during the 80s and early 90s, the punk-influenced DIY trend resulted in it being really cool to put touches of silver electric tape or duct tape on clothes, especially shoes. It was pretty common to see falling-apart canvas Converse with silver duct tape wrapped around the front of whichever shoe needed it. Even more common to see it on the heavy, black, Doc Marten-style shoes and boots of the time. Sometimes on jeans or skirts, too. I had a punk friend in the early 80s who fashioned a punk minidress out of a black trash bag and silver duct tape, copying the earliest London punks of 1976-77. Even designers like John Galliano and Stephen Sprouse picked up on this.
