Me and my husband were just talking about these yesterday LOL!! Did a search on the net and could not find them or even a picture to save my life... I feel OLD!

I wish there was a photo too! I don't remember these specifically being called AJ's but I vaguely remember having blue jeans with little flaps held together by metal buttons and the lining inside the flaps was red and black plaid. Then I had a pair in a greyish denim with grey and pink plaid inside. I wore these in about 1986-1988 and was so sad when I hit my growth spurt in 5th grade and had to hand them down to a cousin.

in '85 i was living in the North Bronx NYC, and for some reason A FEW of our styles were the same as "The DMV". Baggy AJ and Guess jean suits Reebok aerobic sneakers Georgetown starter jackets and the happy feet dance (yes i know from the go go scene). those were very basic wears NYC had in common with other states. 85 was the official birth year of today's baggy jeans and we did it with way more style than today (No Sagging). we had denim and leather (baggy not regular fit)guess jean suits in orange beige and green.(NO BEAT IT JACKETS HERE haha) a lot of styles from the 80s are back in style now like the preppy sweater/shirt out combo. haha i was doing that when i was 16. i remember copying that look from details magazine in '86. even with all the looks resurfacing from the 80s there were so many that haven't reappeared. can't tell ya them either i've taken an oath of secrecy. i was blessed to have lived in the places and times and with family & friends that were also trend setters of the 80s & 90s in NYC. i was so deep in the style game that i could tell ppl who were from Bkln Bx+Manhattan=Uptown & even Philly & DMV. Taylor's AJs & Guess Jeans sent the straight fit Lee Levi's Wranglers era to the graveyard. and lotto reebok fila ellesse and various hot joggers & bball kicks put Adidas shell toes & Puma Clydes to sleep for a long long time. maybe 10+ yrs. til ppl started to wear em again. the above mentioned euro brands, nike & timberland were the 3 headed monster that ruled in the late 80s-late 90s. wow there was so much variety back in the 80s. me and my friends would have the same baggy/preppy style but never the same brands or marterials just different flavors. man i would love to be able to find Patrick Ewing Sneakers (not the Adidas) Leather green X MAN Spot Bilt Hi Basketball Sneakers Osh Kosh pinstripe conductor Jumper, Jacket & Hat Coca Cola Rugby Shirt. When i first visited Richmond VA & BMore in 86 ppl KNEW I was from NYC. ps remember yall exit Lee's enter TAYLOR'S (first "kinda" baggy 2 tone jean w/flaps & matching jacket.) Taylor's had really strong few months run @ the time Here We Go by RunDMC was out. they even made declining Lee's make 2 tone pinstripe twills but Lee still couldn't compete with Taylor. Taylor was limited to a handful of styles and colors then AJ jeans came out with a bang. More styles, more clothing, more colors and most importantly more baggy. Guess borrowed from AJs & Taylor's but refined the look by using crazy materials and fabrics like canvas and denim and then that classic \?/, Light's out... PS i DON'T FEEL OLD. all these styles out now was stuff i was wearing back in the day. it makes me feel so good seeing teenagers wearing stuff i wore back in the 80s 90s particularly polo gucci clothing & footwear. funny i break out my rugbys or ski coats from back in the day and ppl compliment me on my "retroness" haha peace.

For those of you who remember these jeans. I am very grateful. My parents were the owners of the company and AJ's came from my fathers initials. The sold the company back around 1990 and the new owners did not know how to properly run the company and eventually went under. There still are some mementos of the company sitting in my parents home. In very few places have I seen pictures of the jeans but most people my age (40), especially from NY and DC area remember them.

Hey Marshall, I wonder if you had any logos, pics of logos, pics of those jeans, from advertising or anything left over. I, too, did own a pair. you can email me at mikeacevedo70@yahoo.com. Your father made good quality jeans that I would put up against any jeans these days.

I use to work at Up Against The Wall in DC. We sold everything AJ and Guess. I had all the flavors of AJ's made. I would wear a different pair to work everyday and dressed up in my Guess Suit gear for the weekends. I gave most of my stuff away to relatives when I moved to Brooklyn in the nineties to work at Polo Ralph Lauren in NYC. You are right we did have more swag then.

I have three pairs of AJs for sale, all in excellent shape. Probably 32-32 with cargo pockets. These AJs all feature leather on the pocket flaps and look right out of Miami Vice. I'm a 35 inch waist now or I'd be wearing them anytime. I bought these at macy's in New York city for somewhere around $75 a pair. I'll sell them each for $125 a pair. If it's OK to post this, then perhaps the InThe80s website owner will allow my email for anyone interested. Peace!

I'm sure many people will appreciate it. also email me at mikeacevedo70@yahoo.com. Thanks buddy. I'm a broadcast journalist and I'd like to do a little interview about the company and it's beginnings and influence on Hip Hop fashion in the 80s.

Wow, I have been reminiscing over these jeans for years. I still had the diamond shaped cooper tag until 9 years ago when I got divorced. I loved those baggy jeans & used to break in those with my shell toes. I rocked those back in 86'. I'm holding it down for AJ's all day. Much love to Marshall & his family for the awesome memories in their clothing.

Hey Mike, I did email you about a dozen more poster images today. I have tried emailing them to you in the past. If you don't get them you can email me directly at tidewblch@aol.com. I don't know what other material my mother might still have kicking around her house.

Hi guys, I'm the younger brother of Marshall and was just a kid (9 years old) when they sold the company. I wish I could really remember the brand up and in full-swing, but I so appreciate hearing all the love and shout-outs for what my folks were doing. Maybe we can create an FB page with a bunch of the images like you said, and then people can come out of the woodwork and post their own personal photos of the gear and see what shows up. Every once in a while I'll be walking around somewhere and see someone *still* wearing a pair, and it gives me such a kick!
Breeze - September 22, 2014 - Report this comment
I STILL have the copper tag! I was thinking ahead back in 87 and put it in my high school memory book, and it's still there (along with a tag from my Coke rugby shirt) I had several pairs of AJs back in the day..I dont know who the designers were but they were ahead of their time, I'd rock some AJs today!

Added photo of early 80s jeans from GUESS and Georges Marciano. These are a medium wash heavy denim with engineered pockets and leg panels. The leg paneling went around the back of the jeans as well. The pockets snap closed or flaps fold down diagonally with Blue Chambray lining. 2 change pockets on front. The legs swell through the knees before tapering back down at the ankles to 12". Again, the labels got bigger as the decade wore on.. see back label in pic. Label: GUESS Products by Georges Marciano Style: 1080 100% Cotton High waist: 28" 7" zipper front with metal Guess logo button closure. There were other styles with pockets on the knees (and from what I recall, the ankles) too. But these are the only ones I could find. Loved them in high school. Spent my whole work checks on them then had to still borroe money to buy them!

I can't find baggy jeans anywhere anymore. Skinny jeans are the only type of jeans you can buy, and they (in my opinion) are for homosexual men and women... damn shame! I can't stand skinny jeans. Guess I gotta wear sweats for the rest of my life.

AJ's were more of the 70's. They were disco pants. Growing up in the Bronx in the 70's, all the kids wore AJ's. They were also called "overlaps." AJ's, a disco dress shirt and Clyde Pumas (only color then was blue with white stripe) and you were good to go. Great memories

I'm at work and we're all discussing the different labels that were pop back in the 80s. AJs were one of the few expensive labels I had. I loved how they had leather incorporated into the denam. BTW Queens, NY here (45 now).
