Description: Wearing your socks pulled up over your jeans, or sweat pants. Looked damn ugly, but I must admit, kept you mighty warm in winter. I still do it in the privacy of my home.. shhh

HAHAHA I so did this!!! I forgot all about that. Socks not only went over jeans, but any kind of pants (spandex!).
OMG.. We all did this. My friend Kelly wore about 6 pairs of socks in all different colors over her tight jeans and classic high top Reeboks! We all thought she was the coolest! How tacky now!
lol...this should come back, I miss those days (80's and early 90's) when people had more freedom of how they dressed, and peoples mentalities were more open, tacky tacky tacky - so what.
This was one fad that I'm happy to say I REFUSED!
At least that style kept you from getting ticks when walking through the woods!
Ha. I crack up when I see photos of myself back then wearing the socks over my jeans. We also then started to pull the extra pant on the inside leg at the bottom cuffs, folded it over, then rolled the cuff up twice. Then wore our layered or slouch socks right under the folded cuffs.
This is still an acceptable style in Peru. In fact, I go to that country just so i can wear socks over jeans far from the judging eyes of Americans.
This was originally part of the layered look of the 70s, but people wore it into the 80s. I had a pair of thick, heavy, wool camping socks around 1981, grey with red at the top edge, that I wore with my narrow-leg jeans tucked in and a big, crunchy sweater on top.
Haha, "crunchy sweater." Love it.
Looked horrible!!! However, I do this with my riding breeches before I put my boots on.
Jan: I agree. The scrunchy sock trend looked okay over leggings or tight leg jeans, but on regular jeans that you had to peg, the jeans would make an unsightly bulge under the socks.
I am going to an 80's party tonight and I think I will be trying the rolled cuff with slouchy socks or jeans inside my slouchy socks....lol...this thread was hillarious!
The 80's were the best! I don't think it was a horrible look I actually wish everyone would start it again! Maybe calm down on the hair a little haha!!!
In the 70s we did this with 1 leg only, and we only did it when riding our Huffy bike to keep our bell bottom jeans from getting caught in the chain!! It was not actually a "style" for us.
Hikers still frequently do this. Heck, it seems any time I have hiking or hunting boots on the pands are worn with socks over, be them Wranglers or BDU cargoes, on the trail or in town. Never really died out actually, I don't think. Cheers mates
