88-89 (and even 90) was a time when a fella can chill in front of his brownstone or walk into a party wearing biker shorts, be complimented on his style and not get laughed at! I had a few pairs that were black and had the big stripes or NIKE written on the sides in bold or neon colors. But the get up wasn't complete without a matching NIKE windbreaker, red or blue Air Jordans (depending on which pair of shorts I'd wear), some Kool Moe Dee shades and the hightop fade! If Bobby Brown and Teddy Riley rocked that style then it had to be Fresh!

yo i hear you! i used to copy Schoolly D's style with the yellow tank top, the black biker shorts with the yellow stripe and gold chain thinkin that was the hype - weird how hiphop adopted this style. but now i wouldn't attempt to dress like that again unless it was for an 80s party or even halloween

this guy wore them to work when we had inventory night. Omg you could see everything. We wore big t shirts over these sometimes with a belt or sadly with a fanny pack

I wonder who decided that it was cool to dress like a cyclist in everyday fashion - like with matching jersey, shorts and cap?!? Anyway, I was among the many followers of this trend

These were so popular in my town when I was in middle school around like 1988-1989. I thought they were ugly but a lot of kids loved them, male and female. I remember they made skinny kids look way skinner and chubby kids way chubbier. A few boys looked like they were eunuchs in them and other boys it showed off how well-endowed they were. My cousin (female) always wore black biker shorts with a panel of lime green or hot pink down the side, even with shirts that were totally non-matching like a baby blue polo top! LOL Too funny.

Biker shorts were so cool, they gave you an athletic look without having to work out. Most were black, all were shiny and they all seemed to have colored stripes on the sides. If you had a nice behind, they really showed it off... It's funny that they seem to only be worn to run or work out in now, too much work to show off the hiney...

I'd wear one with the stripes under my school uniform shorts but would get busted when a teacher would see the bottoms of the legs because the fluorescent colors violated the dress code. then i'd get detention after school & be late for basketball practice. explaining it to the coach always made me feel dumb haha

It seems that spandex shorts and tights are in as casual wear now. I agreed with Ana, but ever since spring arrived, I've seen many women wearing spandex tights or shorts with sports tops or running jackets out and about. I've always worn them for casual wear anyway but like it better when others do too.
