When it was popular: 1983-86
Description: Part of the preppy movement, kilts (wrap around wool skirts) were held closed with a huge pin, resembling a big gold diaper pin, at about mid-thigh. Usually had fringe along the closing edge. Plaid was a must, usually a mix of red, kelly green and navy Worn with a button down shirt (preferably with a turtleneck or polo shirt under it) and a crew neck cableknit sweater (possibly tied around the shoulders). To complete the look...penny loafers (penny's in) and co-ordinating knee socks.
