Description
Sex: female
Type of clothing: Gitano's moderately priced fashion line for pre-te
When it was popular: 1985-1988
Description: I used to visit the Eva Joia store in Valley Stream,NY. The clothes were so hot. They had their own fan club. I believe Eva Joia's trademark was a white kitten. The clothes were made looking very loud and girly. They made pedal pushers, skirts and all types of coordination outfits. As a black girl not many of my peers knew about it I am 26 now. I still love clothes like the ones made then. It was fun while it lasted!!! From, Tawana G., Queens,NY

I used to love their clothes! They had a section in A&S in Manhasset, Long Island. I remember one outfit circa 1985, I was ten-a purple sweater with a girl on a horse embroidered on the front and matching purple and black stirrup pants!

What a throwback! I remember Eva Joia. I was obsessed with those clothes. And Tawana, all of my friends (black) were on it too, so it's kind of ignorant to make a comment like that. :\

I so remember having to have these clothes when I was about 10 or 11 yrs old. I had to have Eva Joia everything, hat, socks, skirts, purses, bathing suits, you name it I had it, and you could only find them at Kids-R-Us. Yes, I was the only black girl at my school that wore them, and I just knew I was fly!!!

Shoot, I wrote a song about them. I'm white, but I always like loud clothes instead of beige and white like most white girls. I had EVERYTHING. I used to make my dad order it out of the catalog, but the local Sears carried some of their clothes. I didn't know of any other stores that did.

I had Eva Joia everything. I felt so grown up when my magazines would come in the mail with my name on it. My fav. was my pink and purple bathing with the eva joia cat on the front. OMG, those were the days.

I am black too and I loved EJ Gitano! I never really got to wear it, not the way the ads looked, but I had a piece or two. I wanted to be a EJ Gitano model so bad. Her clothes were funky and matched my personality to a tee! Sigh, wish I would build a time machine and be a pre-teen again. I wish fashion was still this funky today.

I remember saving my allowance and gift money and going to what was then, Hudson's, and getting my EJ Gitano! My mom would surprise me and come home from work with something I liked cause she knew that was my favorite. The outfit I put together that stands out the most is my cream top with the cats all over it and my hot pink, carpenter style baggy pants! I'd wear it with bright bracelets and earrings too! I always got compliments on my outfits! Good times!

I had a subscription to the magazine Eva Joia put out called "Girl Style", which came out 4 times a year (each season). I lived for that magazine when I was a 10-year old.

Omg Eva joia was the bomb. I used to go to Valley Stream to get my outfits. I went to school with an EJ Model. She was the coolest girl ever. We danced at Alvin Ailey together. The best.

My favorite Eva Joia outfits were the sparkly pastel knit sweaters with matching skirts. I had a turquoise colored set with a geometric pattern. What was so cool was that with Eva Joia, you could mix n match. For example, I could have bought the sweater skirt (LOVED THOSE, SO COMFY) that was the opposite colors of the matching sweater (for example, the sweater turquoise sweater with the pink design, and the pink skirt with the purple design. Or, I could have worn sparkly pants that matched instead of a skirt. I am getting 11 issues of Eva Joia's 80's "girl style" magazine in the mail soon. I can wait to see the ads!!! If anyone has the first three issues of the magazine, please let me know. I'd like to complete my collection.

Aaaah... I made a few mistakes and wasn't able to edit my post. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted the turquoise sweater with pink geometric shapes and the matching skirt, or the opposite pink skirt with turquoise geometric shapes. I remember at Mervyn's they had three or four round racks of Eva Joia clothes. I would look on the tags to see if I recognized the model named Amber who was on the cover of STICKERS & STUFF magazine once and was also an EJ model.
