The commercials were the best, a guy in front of a firing squad. When asked if he has any last request, he says Bit O' Honey. The flavor lasts so long the firing squad gets bored and falls asleep and the guy escapes!

I wasn't a fan of this because it WAS so hard to chew and I was a little traumatized, thanks to my mom. It's a funny story...My tooth was loose and my mom wanted it to come out, so she gave me Bit o' Honey to chew on. Minutes later, I realized my mom was trying to manipulate me into getting my tooth out, but not before my whole mouth hurt. It didn't work...she tried Abba Zabba next, with about as much success. Eventually I just pulled it out myself, but every time I see Bit O' Honey and Abba Zabba, I think of my poor teeth.

The flavor was pretty good, but the candy was too sticky and hard. Microwaving helped with the latter.

This was the snack to get out of the machine in school if you didn't have a lot of money - there were 6 or 8 in a package so it lasted you! I think the whole package was 40 cents back then.

Bit O Honey is still available. Just got one last week out of a vending machine and my kids get the bite size ones on Halloween.

Yeah, you can buy these on Amazon, in stores, etc. I think they still taste the same as well.

Bit O Honey candy goes back to 1924. Original company was Schutter (until 1970), with plants in St. Louis and Chicago. Ward, Nestle and Pearson the succeeding owners. Earlier advertising included DC and Archie comic books in 1948. No TV commercials from the 1980s turned up. Found one from 1977, with a squeamish circus trapeze guy who forever paused to chew on Bit O Honey until the audience left. Candy still tastes about the same.

Bit O Honey is old fashioned and delightful. Just got some last week at Cracker Barrel. Also got some Mary Jane. Ate it when we were watching The Boys in the Boat. Beat Hitler's men in the eight man 1936 Olympics! USA USA USA
