DELICIOUS!! They were sorta similar to Lay's Kettle Cooked Jalapeno Chips. Only a LOT Crunchier. And tastier. There was another flavor too I think. Like Mesquite. Hoppin' Jalapeno were more common.

The chips were actually called Crunch Taters but used an alligator on the bag. Hoppin Jalapeno and Mesquite BBQ were the 2 flavors.

I haven't seen those in years until recently I found them in a drug store... I love the mesquite chips.

They came in Sour Cream and Onion as well. The Sour Cream and Onion was hard to come by and you had to grab them fast. I worked at Safeway also and would grab them off the shelf as soon as they would hit it.

Tim's Cascade chips are kinda the same.

That is so funny, I thought I was the only person still looking for these chips. These were a childhood favorite along with Surge Soda. Way better than Vault that replaced it.

I also spotted a bag of these watching home alone. If you look carefully you can see the Frito Lay Logo. I wrote Frito Lay requesting that they continue to make them.

Wow, it's funny that I'm watching Home Alone right now for the 25th time with my brother and he just asked me to find out what happened to those "Gator Chips." A quick google search and here I am. The flavors were: Amazin Cajun & Mighty Mesquite! I absolutely LOVED THOSE CHIPS! You can only fin them in "Home Alone" , so sad these chips were so popular and they stopped making them!

You can still get them... kinda. There is a bag of bbq potato chips that taste exactly like them, just not as spicy. They are hawaiian potato chips. I forget the brand name, sorry. But they are just as good if you see them. Bag is orange.

I love the Mesquite BBQ flavor. I first tried them in 199.... at college. They are awesome, but hadn't been able to locate them again. It was apromotional tour at the school when they brought them out. Taste test or something. LOL I was also wathcing Home Alone. I paused the tv and here I am (Thank God for DVR). LOL If someone knows where to find them I'm interested in loading up on the Mesquite BBQ. :)

I was eating the cape cod's sea salt and vinegar flavor. My girlfriend asked why did i love those concrete chips so she calls them. I told her of how I feel in love those kettle cooked chips "CRUNCHERS" from when I why i was younger, and myseld decided to see why the discontinued that brand. Its cool to see that people still remember and miss those awesome chips. Priceless moment for me!!!!!!. and oh yeah Eates...Jalepeno were the GREATEST!!!

The BBQ Chips at Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwhiches are very similar to the Mesquite Crunch Tator. I sometimes buy a second bag for later!

We used to get the Crunch Tators called 'Hot Potato'. These were the absolute best Crunch Tators. If anyone can find them let me know.

For those intrested there are some similar from lays, they're called kettle bbq they are crunchy and tasty, but ofcourse crunch gators are the best of all time. Home Alone was truly a bad movie. And who sold their soul to the devil to make it the most money grossing film of all time up to that point. Do you good people know that McCally Culkin (Totally misspelled that) is now strung out and in a band that uses a "Glockenspiel" and only sings songs about pizza? True story, look it up. A little history for those wondering about these chips. They were chips produced during the late 80's. Jalapeno, BBQ and Plain. Sadly their popularity was their undoing. They began to gain so much popularity that Lay's actually bought out the Tator company, and essentially destroyed the brand, and the chip you knew is now called "Kettle Cooked". RIP Crunch Tators- you were loved by millions.

I sooooo loved Hoppin Jalapeño Crunch Taters they were the only hot food I could take and they were very tasty; I asked people about these all the time for years but nobody seemed to know what I was talking about; I am so glad I found this site and learned that I am not alone; at work I was thinking about these chips and we had some "Miss Vickies" Jalapeño flavored kettle cooked chips,and I only tried them to see if they were close to Hoppin Jalapeno Crunch Taters and OMG they are almost identical. I had my dad run all around town sometimes to get these chips I was just talking with him about it and looked them up and came here sooo happy all of us got the chance to injoy them.

I loved these cruncy munchy delicious chips when I was a kid.
