Description
Back in the 80's I use to buy what I believe are called dinosaur eggs. They came in a black box (one per box). They were shaped like eggs, very hard, came in different colors. As you sucked on them, they turned different colors and at the end you were left with a little egg that had a powdery/sour tasting center.

Do they still make these?

I loved these!
Kelly B - July 04, 2007 - Report this comment
They were a large egg shaped jawbreaker. You had to suck them because they were to hard to bite and break. The inside was a sweet tart center. So good!
Tonya - July 27, 2007 - Report this comment
I checked on these. They no longer make them.
Sara S - September 26, 2007 - Report this comment
They were almost exactly like the Everlasting Gobstopper. What I hated the most was the disgusting white outer shell!!!
Carrie - October 04, 2007 - Report this comment
I LOVED these! I liked them better than Gobstoppers because they had a better ratio of inside sweet-tart type stuff to tooth-breaking outer shell.
electricwood - October 15, 2007 - Report this comment
I believe they also went by "The Choke-a-nator".

Oh how I wish wonka still made these. Dinasour eggs were the best candy ever made. How can we contact wonka to see if they would consider making them again for those of us who are addicted and would love for our children to enjoy the experience of a dinasour egg!
Lisa - March 22, 2009 - Report this comment

Glad to see others still yearn for this treat, not only were these good but they also bring back so many memories. The 80's were a great place to be, its hard to be stuck in a world such as this with memories of how things used to be!

I ordered a box (1 lb) on line from one of the candy stores. I was so excited when they arrived, but then soooo disapointed when they turned out to be just gobstoppers in the shape of an egg. Dont think they make them anymore:(

Loved them. Used to get them at the local skating rink when I was a kid. Wished they still made them. "give me some dinosaur eggs bag of munchos and a suicide Mr. McCoy"

every day on the walk from southside elementry school to my home, i would stop by the Rexal drugs and get two packages, and cross my fingers for red and blue, ive been looking for these for years, i believe they are gone forever
Erin - September 28, 2010 - Report this comment
Noooooo, I'm so sad they don't make them anymore! In the early nineties when I was in kindergarten I would stop by the corner store with my mom some days and I'd always get DINOSOURS and X-MEN GUM! Damn, those were the days.
Will - October 29, 2010 - Report this comment
Haven't seen these in years, but man do I remember eating about 100 boxes of them in the 80s...wish I still had a box

OK..i have acted as a spokesperson and contacted Nestle/Wonka to get these back as I too CRAVE them! Watch this space...
Aman - December 06, 2010 - Report this comment
Hi Stu, have you heard anything back from Nestle/Wonka?
Lorie - December 27, 2010 - Report this comment
I too enjoyed these at my local skating rink when I was a kid. If we could just bring back the 80's what a grand place this world would be..
Elizabeth - January 28, 2011 - Report this comment
I think the long bar of cherry and grape taffy Jenny asked about is "Tangy Taffy", not "Laffy Taffy" Tangy is a flat rectangle, more tart than sweet, while laffy is sweeter, long and thin, like a rope, or bite sized individually wrapped chunks...
Shaun - February 03, 2011 - Report this comment
I also have contacted Nestle/Wonka. I am waiting for a response. Growing up playing little league after the games I would buy out the concession stand of the Dinosaur Eggs. My dentist loved me. Anybody find anything out if they make them still?
Joe - February 17, 2011 - Report this comment
Went to a boy scout summer camp one year and bought DinoSour eggs every day at the snack stand and the last day of the camp I bought a whole box. I loved them!
Mark - February 25, 2011 - Report this comment
For the last couple of years Wonka/Nestle has released "Egg Breakers" at Easter time. I bought 24 packages today. They are small-sized, but the same thing--eggs that change flavor. The flavors are grape, cherry, lime, lemon, and blueberry. Very good. I wanted to buy enough to have them year round.
Jill - April 04, 2011 - Report this comment
I'm working with a client right now that has a dinosaur exhibit coming. Reaching out to Wonka/Nestle to see if they'd do limited edition cross-promotion with Dinosour eggs. You'd think with all the Gen X parents on here begging for them, we might have some luck.

It's June 18th 2011 and I'm STILL craving these!! Was wondering if Wonka still made these, so looked them up and found this site ... am GUTTED they don't! I grew up in Hong Kong and we even had them there! These were the ABSOLUTE BEST I ever had! If so many people loved them, why on EARTH stop making them? BRING THEM BACK!!! Please! :-)
Michele - September 01, 2011 - Report this comment
I had contacted Wonka by submitting a comment or an e-mail which they informed me they no longer have the recipe or make the Dinosour Eggs. They need to research around the archives for the recipe. They were the best!! But to me I wonder if Gobstoppers aren't very similar, just smaller.
Chris - November 01, 2011 - Report this comment
Used to get these on my annual trip to 6flags in Texas. All time fave. They actually changed multiple flavors unlike gobstoppers.
megan - November 11, 2011 - Report this comment
they would be considered a choking hazard now, the size and shape wouldn't pass safety standards now a days, it's amazing we all lived through childhood.
T. - November 22, 2011 - Report this comment
OMG I loved these things! The green ones were the best. They were amazing. They finally made (for a short time) watermelons, like the eggs but all watermelon. The middle was THE best.

Oh, how I miss these!! They were way better than gobstoppers. I think they quit making the wrong one.
Robert B. Harris - October 23, 2012 - Report this comment
I loved these! Gobstoppers aren't even close. I wonder if people had trouble eating these because of their size. If so, maybe they could bring them back in a smaller size? I didn't mind the bigger size.
Erinn - January 14, 2013 - Report this comment
YEAH, these were definitely the BEST candy! RIP DinaSOUR Eggs...you are very MISSED!!
Brent - January 16, 2013 - Report this comment
Today, these crossed my mind for the first time since 1981. A classmate would buy a whole box of these and sell them at our middle school. Seems that they cost him $.10 each and he'd sell them for $.25. Not a bad profit margin!

I've got a mouth full of black fillings thanks to these bad boys!!! Would I change it??? Err nope haha

Melanie - June 09, 2014 - Report this comment
I've been thinking about dinosaur eggs, I absolutely LOVED them as well. I remember they would change colors....Orange to red to yellow or blue, then you reached the sweet tart in the middle. I too wish I could find these again.
Corinne Morrison - July 18, 2014 - Report this comment
I miss DinaSour Eggs (TY so much for at least having an image of the box) but I also miss Orange Bubblicious & Hubba Bubba Raspberry Gum. They have been having some remakes but not those flavors by those companies. The sugar they use now would probably mess it up. In the early 80s I spent all my allowance on candy. :)
jbomz - October 11, 2014 - Report this comment
Dinasour eggs were my favorite, all wonka Cady has changed for the worse, everlasting gobstoppers used to be larger and had a red strawberry like center, bottle caps were larger as well ... I miss the 80 s to much

I absolutely loved and still would love Dina-Sour Eggs even at a lot older age! I used to get Dina-Sours by the boxes when I used to visit my dad. Then, I would take them home to my mom's & sell them to my friends! Bring back Dina-Sour Eggs!!!
Brinda parden - March 19, 2015 - Report this comment
I wish they still made these nothin ever was close to these the gobstoppers weren't the same to me I would buy these by the case now! Please bring these back!
Brian H - September 29, 2015 - Report this comment
I remember that they made a few different versions if these. The first I recall was a little bigger than a large gumball and came two in a plastic wrapper. I used to buy those for either 25 cents or 50 cents. The second I recall were the minis. Those were sold in a small bag and usually had around 15 per bag. The minis would be no more of a choking hazard than most candies sold today. I'd settle for those if Wonka would sell them.

44 now and for whatever reason thought of these today. I ate so many of them I could actually pick the blue ones (my favorite) out just by smelling the box. Wasn't perfect but 85-90% was good enough

I loved these as a kid! I'm 42 now but I remember the taste of these like it was yesterday. They came 2 in a plastic pack for 10 cents at my local candy store. I used to go through these things like water. How I miss those days. I'd give anything to go back to those simpler times. There's nothing better than growing up as a kid in the 80s.
