The center looked/tasted like CloseUp toothpaste. Disgusting. BONKERS! was way better.

Bonkers was candy....no comparison to Freshen up gum,which is great. You can still buy it buy the box on Amazon. Bubble Gum, mint and cinnamin flavored!

I liked it, had it every now and then as a kid. It was very different. I can't remember the last time I had some but it doesn't seem like that long ago. The center was (is) a sugary glycerin-like product. Bubble Gum was my fav.

they use to call it cum-gum at school,i know- gross.i still buy it at this indian reservation where my husband buys his ciggarettes-they have all kinds of candy and stuff that i thought were discontinued,like zagnut,candy cigs,etc.

I'm going crazy trying to remember a candy/gum similar to this except it came in fruit flavors. I could have sworn they were called Hush Puppies for some reason.

I use to always get this gum as a kid. Got it from CVS or Osco. I loved the squirt in the middle. They still sell it at some gas stations.

Mom carried this in her purse a lot.. Definitely loved the pink one (Bubble Gum flavor) and the green (Spearmint) was good, too! I suddenly remembered it one day and could never find it. Now I see them at the stores. :) As a kid, I used to bite a tiny corner off and suck the liquid before chewing the gum... Think I'll do that again ASAP for old times sake!

The bubblegum flavor was ok but the mint stuff wasn't so good. All in all the concept was a little creepy.

Remember the commercial jingle "He didn't know the gum was loaded..."? It was a stupid commercial, but memorable. It hasn't been that long since I've seen it in the store.

I just got a candy shipment in last week and I had ordered Freshen up in cinnamon, peppermint,and spearment. I hadn't had it in years. So,I bought a case of each kind.

Cinnamon Freshen-up was so good. I also would bite off tiny corner and suck out the liquid. Flavor lasted a long-time.

I remember buying this at the bowling alley every week! Good stuff! I loved the liquid center! YUM!

I ran across this in a vintage candy store in Old Town Sacramento recently. I totally geeked out over it.

Loved this gum as a kid in the eighties! I can still find it now and then but i can never find the "fruit" flavored one.

There was also a gum called Tidal Wave that was the same thing, but it only came in fruit flavors (grape, orange, strawberry, I think). Heh heh... I said "came". CUM GUM!!!!

Lol. Yes, I remember Tidal wave, also. I remember sticking my hand in my pocket and finding a sticky mess from carrying that gum around. Fun stuff.

Freshen-up gum was the best, you would have to take it out of your moms purse or dads drawer cause the kids weren't aloud to eat have it...

We used to raid our grandmas stash of freshen up gum whenever we were at her house. :) The liquid in the middle was so goood.
