Description
I believe these came before fruit roll-ups and fruit snacks. They were a bar of jelled fruit, about .5 x 4 x 2 inches. I remember the commercial featuring Devo-esque characters, singing "Made from real fruit so your taste buds shout, look so ugly they're gonna knock you out!" The whole marketing campaign was based on the fact that the bars were in fact ugly, though tasty.

I used LIVE off these things. I loved them when I was a kid and carried a box around in my backpack for snacking.

Sunkist is making a Fruit bar that is very similar to Fruit Bars. I've seen them in the "Organic" section of Kroger and a couple of other places. They are near the natural fruit leathers and other products like that. Not as good as the original and alas no grape but as close as I've ever found.
Finally! Someone else remembers how awesome these were! I've been telling people about them for years now, and 90% of the people I talk to don't remember these. I thought they were amazing! Remember the ones with the "cream stripe" in the middle? Those were a nice variation too. :)
I remember when they decided to mix these with cream. YUMMY!! I could eat a whole box if my Mom wasn't looking.
These were good but I really couldn't get past their appearance - I'm pretty squeamish about some things and the fact that they looked like slugs was enough to do me in. :)
I am highly upset and have been ever since they took these off the market, but i want to know why they took them off, does anyone know
I'm not the only one? These things were amazing!
"Fruit Bars, so good and ugly!" I don't remember ever eating the regular ones, but they had a Fruit and Cream version that had streaks of what, I assume, was _nearly_ the same stuff that covered Fun Fruits Creme Supremes. You could bend the fruit part and cause the "cream" to break off of it, which I would do to eat it first, then the fruit.
Dude I was looking for something on these all over! Glad you all remember too!!
