Description
From Keebler, these looked like Oreos, but had green filling with a minty taste, and were particularly delightful. These are NOT the same as modern grasshopper cookies, which are chocolate covered hard one piece things.

My grandmother used to give us grasshopper cookies whenever we would go to her house. They were my favorite. For some reason they just came to my mind now and I'm sorry they don't make them like they used to anymore.

I like the new kind they have out now, but if you want something closer to the original, I have seen mint Oreos at Acme, ShopRite, etc. They're delicious, too!

I was trying to explain these to my bf last night! I could only find the hard chocolate covered ones. My mom used to buy these...there was a cartoon grasshopper face on the package.

I remember the original grasshopper cookies. I don't know why they stopped making them :o( they were MUCH better than the mint Oreos.

Ha! I thought the principal of my middle school (a nun) looked like the cartoon grasshopper...which is how she got the name "hopper" :)

I used to love these as a kid! Really wish they still made them, or at least someone could find an old picture and post it so that we could point to it and say: see? They did exist!

I am also glad I found this because there is no "official" site out there recording the change in these cookies and I feel like I am the only one in the world that remembers the original way they were! I am NOT nuts! :-)

I remember these, they were a regular in the cookie jar rotation growing up. Didn't they have a cartoonish grasshopper embossed on the chocolate wafer part?

I saw the "updated" version of these at a grocery the other day, and was so disappointed. They seem to have basically made them into a clone of Girl Scouts Thin Mint cookies. Anyway, count me in as another person who remembers the original ones. My parents never bought them, so I thought of them as sort of a special treat. The closest thing I've found to the originals is Newman's Own mint Oreo-type cookies.

When I was a teenager I used make my great uncle grasshopper pie. It was his favorite. I would separate the cookies and scrape out the filling into a bowl. I would make a crumb crust with the cookies. Then I would make vanilla pudding pie filling and mix in the grasshopper filling into the pudding until it melted. I scooped the filling into the shell and "wallah"!- grasshopper pie. Be a little hard to do that now.

THREE GENERATIONS FROM OLD TO YOUNG LOVED THE FRESH CRISP COOL DARK GRASSHOPPER COOKIES WITH REFRESHING MINT GREEN ICING. WHY DO THEY TAKE AWAY PERFECTION? ENGLAND DID IT WITH TOY BOX, I SAVED THEM FOR CHRISTMAS AND BIRTHDAYS AND EVERY SPECIAL DAY I COULD DREAM UP.

It’s 2024 and this page is still being discovered by folks seeking to verify that we are not delusional for remembering the original grasshopper cookies, the way they were meant to be.
