Jujubes were first produced some time before 1920. The jujube is an edible berry that grows in the tropics. But the name of the berry has nothing to do with the make-up of the candy, which is more likely related to one of the basic ingredients of both Jujubes and Jujyfruits, ju-ju gum. Jujyfruits were first made in 1920. Each box contains an assortment of fruit-shaped candy pieces. Both were originally made by the Heide Company which was started by German immigrant, Henry Heide in 1869. Today they are made by the Hershey Company.

Ahhh, Ju Ju Bees. *sigh* They make me hate my sister even now....15 years later. I was so excited to finally get my very own box of candy on family movie night. (I remember that bright green box) I didn't finish them, so I hid the rest under my bed where my sister never (previously)looked. She found them! She ate them! Jesi, you witch!

I bought a box of these a few months ago, they were so hard I nearly broke a tooth... I remember them hard but not tooth shattering. must have been stale.

Jujubes could pull a tooth out! I remember eating these candies at the walk-in theaters in San Diego. After chewing jujubes which was irresistable, they would get stuck so hard onto my teeth, I'd have to poke around in my mouth with my fingernail to dislodge them. The colors were beautiful, and they tasted sweet too!

The look and flavor of Jujube candies is much different than I recall from my childhood. The colors now are brighter and the flavors are great ...but... I miss the muted color and the indistinguishable flavors they had back in the 50s and 60s.

Jujyfruits seem to be a lot more popular than Jujubes

When I grew they were awesome, hard but chewy always got stuck in your teeth. For the past 10 years it seems they have a crunch to them ,like they were over cooked. The colors used to be darker and more translucent. Now they are brighter, cloudy looking.
