Chicken McNuggets are the bomb hands down.

I loved these growin up. I wish they still came in the yellow styrofoam boxes instead of the regular cardboard boxes that they do today. I stil lget them once in a great while.

I used to get the Happy meal with the Teryaki nuggets. It came with Terayki dipping sauce and a pair of chopsticks!!
ACJ - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
Oh my gosh, I could totally drink the hot mustard sauce straight!!
Nuggethead - July 23, 2008 - Report this comment
I miss the old nuggets. The round dark meat and the odd white meat shape. Those were the best!!! The stuff they got is ok
Stewie - September 04, 2008 - Report this comment
I've been eating these since I was a kid. I've loved them since and when I was a kid I believe I started out with 6. They had 6, 9 and 20 back then. Then I had 9 and sometimes that wasn't enough to satisfy me! I don't see how kids today can eat just 4 because I would think that wouldn't begin to satisfy my hunger. When I go through the drive-thru I always get 10 with BBQ sauce. And the nuggets now don't taste much different than my childhood days and when it's hot and fresh it's awesome!
Jenny - September 30, 2008 - Report this comment
Does anyone remember during Christmas they used to have an apple dipping sauce for the nuggets? I wish they had that permanently!
Stewie - October 01, 2008 - Report this comment
I think I remember the apple sauce. But I'd rather just have BBQ or maybe honey mustard.
sneekymee - January 02, 2009 - Report this comment
I don't remember the apple dipping sauce. I do remember the Shanghai McNuggets though, that were mentioned above. You got hot mustard, teriyaki and sweet and sour sauce. And chopsticks. I have never found another person who knows what I'm talking about. I always get looked at like I have 3 heads or something.
neoasura - January 06, 2009 - Report this comment
I LOVED the Teriyaki dipping sauce! Glad I wasn't just imagining that. Try to tell people they used to have that sauce and they look at you like your crazy
neoasura - January 06, 2009 - Report this comment
Also, it seemed like they tasted better before they switched the frying oil after the health craze kicked in. I also remembered the Styrofoam yellow tray they came in with a built-in tray for the sauce.
Sharon - January 16, 2009 - Report this comment
I still get them sometimes.. I know it's terrible for you - blah, blah... They have the best fries, too!
justin - January 21, 2009 - Report this comment
surprisingly, i though the teriyaki sauce was the best ever. wish they'd bring THAT back.
shneum - February 25, 2009 - Report this comment
Does anyone remember Chicken n' Chips -maybe late 70's or early 80's, before McNuggets came out. They came in a card board box that looked like wood with a divider inside(chips on one side and chicken on the other)?
neoasura - May 22, 2009 - Report this comment
hmm, don't remember the Chicken n' Chips, but speaking of box. I do remember nuggets coming in the Styrofoam yellow box with a molded in divider for the sauce
Kyleigh - August 11, 2009 - Report this comment
Who doesn't love the chicken nuggets at McDonald's? They are delicious and I always have them whenever I go to McDonald's. They are so delicious!! Yum!!

Fifty cents per nugget is too much to pay!
80sBaby - April 10, 2010 - Report this comment
Mmm...McNuggets! I really liked these as a youngster and I still do. I think they're even more tasty now with all white meat.
Lyndsay - October 07, 2010 - Report this comment
my husband swears there was a promotion in the 80s with international sauces. like green salsa for guatamala. sounds like the teryaki was along the same lines. does anyone else remember this? I have been teasing him for so long that it never happened. if it's true please let us know!
Chester the Molestie - October 12, 2010 - Report this comment
Your husband is correct. It didn't go on for long, howeve. Also, the Fish would come in styrofome boxes and they made thier food in advance and kept in under heat lamps.
J Matthews - November 02, 2010 - Report this comment
I remember the shanghai McNuggets...it's what brought me to this site! they came in a Red/Black box with oriental letters along with chopsticks and a Mcd Fortune cookie! Around Xmas..it wasn't an apple dip..they would offer Hollandaise sauce. I always preferred the Styrofoam McD containers above all...esp the McNuggets 20pce...nothing says I'm an over eater as a BIG 20 on the side of the box
Jeff - February 27, 2011 - Report this comment
I worked at McD's when these were introduced to our region. We got a few cases in and decided to cook up a couple of bags to see what they were like. We went through the first couple bags in no time at all and it seemed like everytime I turned around, someone was cooking another batch! Needless to say we tried all of the sauces as well.
Craig - February 28, 2011 - Report this comment
I too wish that they would bring the Teriyaki & hot mustard sauses. And thank you someone, I am not crazy there were chop sticks! I also remember they had a mexican theme also. I remember a green chili/tomatillo sauce that I liked also. But the Oriental sauces and packaging were the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
W. - May 02, 2011 - Report this comment
It's hard to believe people actually eat this garbage. It's nothing but goo from the bone marrow of chicken bones with a little soy protein and pepper added. Yuck!

I still Love McNuggets, each bite is full of joyful Happy Meal memories. I don't get them often as I try not to eat fast food as a rule but on the odd ocation I pull through a drive through an order of McNuggets would never run amis!
Gloria - July 09, 2011 - Report this comment
I love these things. I just had some of them today. Having their sweet and sour sauce with them is a must. Nobody makes the sauce or the nuggets like these!

I just found this page while doing some reminiscing about McDonald's in the early 80's. I remember when McNuggets were introduced in my area (western Pennsylvania), back around 1981, they were called "Chicken and Chips". They came in a little divided box, half of it was french fries and the other half was chicken nuggets. I couldn't find anything at all when I googled it except for this site. One commmenter above from 2009 had the same memory as me. Does anyone else remember "Chicken and Chips"? I don't think that lasted very long, then they were re-named Chicken McNuggets, and were sold without the fries.
Mitch - October 29, 2011 - Report this comment
Chicken nuggets used to be awesome. Now they are DISGUSTING. McDonalds changed the nugget entirely, now they are super thin with no meat and no flavor. Not even worth the outrageous price they charge for them. Gross.
Jan Griffiths - December 30, 2011 - Report this comment
They were better when they were available in dark meat as well as white. Now they're white meat only.
dave m - January 31, 2012 - Report this comment
if you nnew how they were made ,you would never eat them again, did you know that 100 percent of the chicken is pulvarized into a liquid paste and because the bacteria content is so toxic they give it an amonia bath and then flavor the paste to hide the amonia smell ,it is a pretty sick mess.

I remember the oriental promo back in the 80s with the chopsticks.that's what got me started eating them.now I'm going thru cancer treatments and the mcnugget along with hot mustard and sweet and sour make the best meal in the world

Does anyone remember when you could get plain honey as one of the sauces? I loved that!
Doug - September 05, 2012 - Report this comment
Maybe it was a regional thing, but I remember that at Christmas time they came out with an orange sauce, the only sauce that I liked better than my beloved Hot Mustard.

I'd kill for a 20 box of all old school dark meat

As a women, I, too, love the dark meat. More "bang" for the buck. Or, rather, from the buck. But seriously, I remember, or at least think I remember the orange sauce. Great posts everyone! Happy New Year.

I liked the old nuggets better, and I liked getting the honey sauce along with the hot mustard sauce and dipping in both. Delicious!

I remember when the drive-thru time standard was 30 seconds, which meant that you had your food 30 seconds after placing your order. QSC, or Quality, Service, and Cleanliness meant something. Special order people could go to Burger King, the line had to keep moving and the food was way fresher since nothing was staged in the kitchen for long periods of time. The bin holding time was ten minutes, which meant that nothing you ate was over ten minutes old, though the nuggets had a 30 min holding time in the grill area. The fries were not pulled early (I hate the fries today, they are either old and cold, or limp because they were pulled too early…though there are occasional exceptions, in which case they are perfect), the shake machine was always in service, and a Big Mac was the best sandwich on the planet. Oh how the times have changed. It takes 30 min to get through the DT today if you are the second car in line. The sandwiches are cold, the nuggets are frequently old and hard, and they took the fast out of it fifteen years ago. McDonald’s is a shell of its former self.

Dude, are you the real Ray Kroc? He started Micky D's, right?
Dana - January 10, 2013 - Report this comment
The McChicken sandwich used to be dark meat as well. And when you smother the bbq sauce o it taste just like the old mcnugget. Now its just a breaded chicken patty with pepper.

I remember one time...it was either McDonald's or Burger King...they had a super size 50-piece Chicken McNuggets. Anybody remember a 50-piece size? I could have sworn there was a very large size like that...unless I'm hallucinating. Help me out, somebody.

Do anyone remember the green chili pepper sauce for nuggets that came in a packet like ketchup does. I can't remember the name but it was so good. It was like a green pepper relish.
Darcy - December 19, 2013 - Report this comment
Carl, Ray Kroc did start Mickey D's.........but he died in 1984 and it's unlikely he'd have been posting on here anyway. lol J, I know you remember hollandaise, but there was also an apple dip. The one I remember best is the orange one. I was searching for it and that's how I found this page. I miss all the old packaging, but it was mostly styrofoam and not very friendly to the environment. Not worth filling landfills with it for decades just because we liked the look better.

I ate my weight in these as a child, and I have to say that the taste has changed A LOT. The new frying oil at McDonald's means that your food has to be piping hot or otherwise there is an aftertaste. Unfortunately, the new nuggets seem to absorb more of the cheap, "healthy" cooking oil. Screw political correctness; let's fry everything in beef tallow again. It's better for us and has no trans fat.

Came out in 1983 and were definitely not all white meat! Four sauces were available: BBQ, Sweet and Sour, Honey, and Hot Mustard

I too remember the chopsticks! I was four years old when they came out and I remember my parents trying to help me use them. :) I believe this was when we were on vacation; just as my family does now, we very rarely went to McD's; we'd mostly go for the pcancake deals in the early-mid 1990s.

Chicken n' Chips! I certainly remember these being the introduction of McNuggets at McDonald's. The commercials went something like "... come to McDonalds for new chick, chick, chicken and chips!" This was definately the 70's and exactly how previous posts described it - a split box with Fries (chips) on one side and Chicken Nuggets on the other. I get the "Chips" reference because I grew up in Canada... but why would they call Fries "Chips" in the US unless served with fish?

So glad they brought back the hot mustard after recently trying to discontinue it. I'll always love "mickee-D's". Big Macs, and of course Chicken McNuggets. I remember when the McNuggets came out when I was in high school, and my friends and I would sneak off campus to McDonalds for lunch (and maybe even a quick stop at the video game arcade!) Classic American 80's!

I also remember chicken and chips. And the divieddd box! I also grew up in Pittsburgh and had these in the McDonalds in Oakland right before the Pitt vs. Florida State game like 1982? Dan Marino was the QB and the nuggets were awesome. The box was remarkable and I would love to see a picture of the box!

I think one of my fondest memories of having chicken nuggets at McDonald's (along with a burger and fries, of course) was when they advertised a 50-piece. That's right...50 pieces of chicken nuggets! Of course, I could never eat that many in one sitting, but I did order a 20 pieces. My favorite dipping sauce was always sweet & sour, but I also enjoyed BBQ, honey mustard, and another kind that I don't remember. It wasn't ranch or anything like that. I'll try and Google the different dipping sauces that McDonald's used to have and see if the one I'm thinking of (but can't remember the name of) pops up.
