The Kmart in my town served these at their snack bar, along with popcorn. It was a low-budget knockoff of ICEE. I would try to be very good and very patient while my parents shopped in hopes they would buy me one from the snack bar near the exit as we left.

Nothing will ever top the Slush Puppy!!! In midddle school, they had a Slush Puppy machine but called it 'Vita Pup'. Oh, I get it ... how very HEALTHY. You got to dispense the drink yourself. $0.35 got you one squirt of flavor syrup and an 8-oz cup to fill w/ ice mixture. The lunch ladies were real Nazis about that single squirt rule. Don't let them catch you trying to eke out a squirt and a half!!!

I only know on one place that had slush puppies and that was in the 90's. Everywhere else had ICEEs only cherry or coke flav kmart, mccrorys 5&10.

Similar memory to ACJ, as a kid we would eyeball the machine on the way out and would be so let down if we did not get one. A family-owned gas station in Seminole, FL which has since closed its doors used to sell Cherry and sometimes Blueberry or Lemonade or Coke... Even at 20 (then) I still would feel excited when I needed to get gas there! LOL...

I didn't like Slush Puppies but I did think that the Mascot was adorable...he was a little dog with a sweater and hat on sucking on a straw..how cute is that?

There is a small chain off conv. stores called Heritages in South Jersey. They used to sell all 8 or so flavors. I loved them all. There used to be little "paw pts." that you could cut out on the side, but I never knew for what or where to send them. Our K-Mart sold ICEE which I also loved.

Every summer we'd get packed off to Wisconsin, where our grandparents and cousins lived...good times, going to the gas station to buy some candy, some Dinosaurs Attack! cards...and a Slush Puppy. Each cup size was pegged to certain number of flavor squirts, BUT...the machine was across the store and out of the direct sightline of the counter!! Naturally, then, the game was to pick out your cup and then wait, using the time to pick out your candy till the attendant turned away..then you'd whirl around and go at that syrup button like a crazed hamster and the bottom fifth of the cup was syrup. Ah. Nothing like a Slush Puppy. Slush Puppy 4Ever!

I love Slush Puppies! They were soooo much better than ICEE! ICEEs were very finely ground ice, and they didn't have that much flavor. But Slush Puppies were really intensely flavored, and they'd stain the heck out of your tongue and lips and anything else that touched the liquid! Plus, the ice wasn't as finely ground, which made it kinda crunchy. My favorite was cherry.
