I bought Tang in a big can at Costco a few weeks ago. It's still around, and still so good!!

You used to get little plastic astronaut men in the canisters, because they had taken it on one of the space missions.

Yes, Rascak, I remember the toy moon car! Proably the coolest toy that ever came with any product. And I think I barely remember the grape flavor, Karen. Didn't know you could stil get Tang. Definately have to check it out.

Tang ... It's what the Astronauts brought to the moon. And that was TRUE! Get drink that personified the 1970's instant drink market. That Moon Car was cool. And, I do believe they had a grape flavor.

General Foods introduced Tang in 1959. Early on, animated TV commercials for it featured Bugs Bunny & Company (1960-62). The drink mix had gotten heavy exposure (and revenue) during the NASA Gemini and Apollo space missions in the late 1960s. In early 1970, Ron Dante and The Archies recorded a catchy TV jingle called "Do The Moonwalk" while about eight kids danced in line to it (both on earth, and in a simulated moon setting). Occasional references to the space program were still made, even into the 1980s.

My sister was one of those 8 kids in the "moonwalk" tv commercial!

Yes! In the "earth" commercial, there were three girls and four boys (8 to 10 years old). Also, the small boy (around 6) who appeared amidst some trick photography (disappearing table, kids and door), then took up the rear in the moonwalk line with the others. Currently, YouTube only has the audio portion with cartoon Archies pictured. "Tang, Tang, Bang Bang!" I was in second grade when commercial first aired on Saturday morning.

Just found the original "Do the Moonwalk" Tang song and uploaded it to YouTube. Search under "Tang Commercial Do the Moonwalk" - more upbeat and different lyrics than the radio version.
