BEWARE OF THE VELAMINT. Not sure how organic they are but don't eat a whole role at a time. You'll spend the day in the bathroom but great for movement.

My favorite Velamint memory is that Joe Public song where, if you listen carefully, someone quite forcefully exclaims "Velamints taste good!".

My mom always had these in her purse. She would give me one whenever we had to wait in a long line somewhere or if I'd been good at teh supermarket. It seemed like a big treat! I loved the shape more than the taste, the way they rested on your tongue.

I once had these at my local barber shop. I was a good patient and got some as a treat. I then exploded and died due to the god awful taste.

I'm in total agreement with SZA, I loved the shape and texture of Velamints but the taste wasn't so fabulous, it was just ok. They seem to be an older folks thing, my elderly aunt or grandmother always had them and I see others posting the same!

My dad used to eat them. I had some and liked the shape and that the middle would get a hole in it first and I could stick my tongue through. I also remember a commercial for it. There was a man sanding a boat and the background music was "Makes your mouth come alive!" "Alive, alive, alive" (echos). What does boat sanding have to do with mints? I have no recollection about his putting it to water. Maybe that's where he "came alive"? I dunno.

I had the Scottish region sales agency for Velamints. At the time it was the only sugar free mint on the market. Great memories.....

I've only ever had one pack of chocolate ones and it was the day before I was going to be godmother for my nephew. I ate the whole pack, one after the other, not realising the consequences. Was very ill!!! They were nice though.

As a young child our Grandparents use to have Velamints around the farm house. We thought they were like alKa seltzer and were very disappointed when we threw them in the toilet and did not fizz. So we then tried a handful of them and were rushed to the hospital for mintitis and spent the summer in isolation. This candy is for the birds!

I remember eating those things in the 90's. In particular, the chocolate ones, from a cellophane-covered paper and foil roll. If I ate the whole roll in a day's time, the sorbitol it was sweetened with would have its way with my...let's just say...very worn toilet seat!

I am too lazy to go back upstairs and get the exact name, but the new Crest mouthwash I just bought tastes exactly like Wintergreen Velamints.

I used them in the 80's as a substitute for cigarettes when giving them up - for about a year. I gained about 30 pounds and could not understand it until I realized 'sugar-free' did NOT mean low calorie! Was just learning to read the labels. I was sorta hooked on them!

My grandmother used to give me Velamints to keep me quiet in Church when I was little.

I still remember the jingle. "New Velamints took the sugar out, you can really taste the mint! So fresh, they take your breath away, cool, refreshing Velamints!" I still remember the jingle.

Velamints took the salt water taste the way when snorkeling, and they worked! That's all I can remember about them from the 80s.

Just bought a pack of chocolate velamints at Dollar Tree last week (7-2015). Just as good as I remember!

Sorbitol was originally marketed as a laxative. It isn't the only sugar substitute that will do the same thing. Also, sugar-free doesn't mean noncaloric but much better than the calories in a regular mint with sugar. If you gained 30 lbs in a year, I would have to say it wasn't the mints you were consuming. You would have to have eaten a ton of them each day and that would have resulted in a very "free" bowel. That would probably result in a 30 lb loss. Maybe you were eating a lot more than Velamints ;)

Just found them at the Dollar General. Got them for my mom as a christmas stocking gift. I used to search through all her purses in the early 80's until I found them. (I was 3). Great Nostalgia.

Just found some blood orange flavored velamints at Trader Joes!!!! They are delicious!

Before retiring in 2003, I worked in lower Manhattan and Union Sq for 35 years. I bought Velamints in packs of three or singles whenever and wherever! If I found a candy store or street merchant that had them I bought every pack they had. I received a care package from my twin sister in Florida who 'found' them at crackle barrel! Oh happy days!

I never buy Velamints because they contain Aspartame folks and it has been proven to be a very toxic chemicsl sweetener. Why don't they use Maple Syrup? they also add FDC Blue.

The artificial sweetener used in these Velamints (Sorbitol) had something of a laxative effect. Have more than two or three of them, and earth-shattering diarrhea would inevitably follow.

11 years later and I still have the lingering after effects of the mintitus I received from eating too many Velamints. Word on the street the Old Man died from excessive velamint eating and froze to death. I can only imagine what the long term effects will be in the future for my health.

Prolific commenter here (see history). I find the newer formula loses some of the time travel properties the original formula had. You really need the original formula if you wanna go visit Jesus. The new formula brings you back as far as the renaissance. You really dont have the option to steal the Mona Lisa, then go let Jesus have it. But i winder what would happen if i ate 2 of them back to back...ill report my findings soon

My old friend Brownie introduced me to Velamints shortly after his arrival to the barn. As a miniature horse I enjoy having a Velamint or two before bed time to wash the days hay and oats away! Sometimes if I eat too many I back kick my 4 goat friends (Spare Change). These mints can give you static electricity! Hershey once tried to steal my stash of Velamints that were stored at the cottage and we got into a fight. What a treat these are for small horses!

Well that just tears it Hershey! You’re just angry that the Velamints gave you terrible gas that blew the chickens out of the barn! You could power a space ship to the moon with the excessive gas from eating so many Velamints. I wish Brownie would come back and kick you in the nose!

I can attest to the super gas giant that is Hershey. He is the reason I moved away! The stench from the cow pasture across the street was a much better smell by comparison. I still visit from time to time though. If only to get my dirty hooves on some sweet sweet Velamints

Some sad news to report from the barn as Hershey is no longer with us. On a dark and cold winter night without notice Hershey was taken. The arrival of Cinnamon was a surprise but Spare Change and I didn’t know it was at Hershey’s expense! :( I know he was a wild horse but only when meeting new friends! Our Velamint fights in the cottage are just a memory now of our time spent together. I will miss our nightly Velamint treat we shared together. Cinnamon insists that we get some Big Red but it’s too spicy for my small horse tastes.
