I had 2 sets of these. I had one disney one and then I had one that came with a video. It had shapes and stuff and when you got to certain points in the video you would use the shapes to make things to "help" the characters. I usually just watched the movie because it was awesome.

This is so WEIRD! One of those weird memories that stick in your mind forever. I had a Mork and Mindy color form set which was the first one I ever had and I remember it because my mom had to have eye surgery once when I was like 4 and I remember her coming home wearing a white eye patch after being away from us for the first time ever and me playing with those things while she was gone. I think I got a Winnie The Pooh one with Tigger later.

I had a Sesame Street one. It had several levels on the house. It was so AWESOME! You could put the refrigerator and beds and Ernie and Bert wherever you wanted. I wish I had that to pass on to my son!
Hannah - January 03, 2008 - Report this comment
I had the Sesame Street ones if I can recall. I wish I had the Popples colorforms like the ones they show on top, but I don't think I did. They just don't make them like they used to

I had recieved a big E.T. colorforms set when I was getting my tonsils out. It was the forest setting with fold out flaps that revealed E.T.'s spaceship!
Stewie - September 06, 2008 - Report this comment
I had many of these when I was a kid. The best ones were Sesame Street with the two opening buildings and A Peanuts one where on one side you could open a big house (Charlie Brown's house I would presume) and the other side you could open Snoopy's doghouse!
SavageLettuce - September 11, 2008 - Report this comment
I loved Colorforms! I had this huge Smurf village. It was a tree that you opened up & became their village w/ all the mushroom houses & stuff. It ruled.
Jenny - September 25, 2008 - Report this comment
I would literally play with these for hours. I also had the Smurf village one, and a Cabbage Patch Kids one.
Sandra - November 14, 2008 - Report this comment
I had the ginormo Smurf village too and used to play with that thing endlessly. It never got old with me...I was such an easy-to-please tot. Also we had 2 of these sets that were MAGIC SHOW colorform sets. Kinda hard to describe (but I'll give it a shot..) You would stick the colorform on this wheel and you turned the knob and it came into view under a green window and you'd see a little cartoon fishie (presuming the colorform in question is a cartoon fishie, that is) and then you turned the center knob a bit more, and it would come into view thru a red window and that would show THE FISHIE'S BONES!! Woohoo! Actually in retrospect, it was kinda lame, nowhere near as cool as the Smurf town playset. But we played quite a bit with ours, because it was a Mork & Mindy Colorforms Magic Show and I think we just loved that unique cachet that accompanied fine Mork & Mindy merchandise. We had a Minnie&Mickey Colorforms Magic Show that was nearly identical and we hardly ever touched the thing...unless we were lifting those colorforms for use on the Mork & Mindy Magic board.

Oh wow I used to LOVE my Colorforms!! I'm now 26 years old. I had so many of them, but one I remember most was the New Kids on The Block lol. A few years ago I bought a Cabbage Patch Kids one on ebay. It's awesome and just sits on my old stereo in my old room! :)
Mel - December 18, 2008 - Report this comment
The best thing EVER! I had Popples, Smurfs, She-Ra, Sesame Street, Mickey Mouse, and Cabbage Patch kids. I am sure I had others. My mom would buy them or pick them up for me at a garage sale. They were so simple and fun. I don't understand why they don't make these still.
Jen - December 31, 2008 - Report this comment
These things were awesome. I remember having tons of them. Isnt it funny how something so simple could provide hours of amusement. Kids now-a-days would probably hate them. We definitely had the best toys in the 80s!
Stewie - January 02, 2009 - Report this comment
We had the best toys in the 80's? In a word - AMEN.

I loved these things! I remember a huge Smurfs one, and also a Garfield one. You could put Garfield in his cat bed and stick his food dish in front of him : )
steve - May 12, 2009 - Report this comment
Colorforms go back to the 60s!! I had a Top Cat set, after the TV show that I played with a lot. Also a Colorforms baseball game played with spinners that was actually a very good game with realistic final scores, etc. My older brother and I played this a lot. The background was obviously a baseball field, with Colorforms players to put on the bases. As someone else here has noted, the sets had a particular pleasant, sweet smell. I'm pleased to hear that they kept making them for a long time - they required children to exercise some imagination in their play, unlike too many modern toys/games.
PeepsMcGee - May 26, 2009 - Report this comment
Colorforms are awesome! I had several sets, Garfield, Cabbage Patch, and tons of others, I would spend hours decorating the room & playing with them, but I always lost them, thus the reason for having so many sets...lol
WereDog - May 26, 2009 - Report this comment
I got the Pound Puppies one for Easter. I was angry because I wanted a stuffed animal. What a brat I was. But I had fun with it nonetheless. Why they don't make these now I'll never know.
Karen - August 12, 2009 - Report this comment
WEREDOG- They do make them now! I babysat for a 3 year old that had a Dora The Explorer set. My mom loved Colorforms when she was younger, and made sure I had them when I was young. I remember having A disney set, Sesame St, and Muppet Babies set.

I'm 33...does anyone remember a Disney (Mickey and crew) colorforms set that was a glow-in-the-dark haunted house? I LOVED it. If you turned off the lights, there were little ghosts and stuff, like the fish in the fishbowl would just glow as a skeleton. I swear I'm not making it up, but I have not been able to find any info on this set!

@ MTK, I had the set you're talking about, and for the life of me, I can't remember the name of it. I found a listing on eBay yesterday of an UNOPENED box of Mickey's Funhouse colorforms sets, all brand new, never used. Taking a chance and getting the thing in the hopes it's the one I used to play with back in the 70's. Wish me luck!

Why is this in "toys of the eighties"? Colorforms were being sold in the early 50'S! Wow, talk about uninformed. Please folks a little research before posting. Thanks
Jadedoz - March 05, 2010 - Report this comment
@ Richard, that would be because this website is about toys that were available in the 1980's, not first re;eased in the 1980's.

Holy cow- I had totally forgotten that I had posted this, and I am just now seeing responses! Thanks to all who shared the memory of the glow-in-the-dark Mickey set, and to those who knew the real name of it! I was truly beginning to think I had just imagined the whole thing...

To Josie...I have been looking for the same set you are talking about. It had furniture and food I believe, although I can only remember bits and pieces of it. All I know is I loved it and played with it all the time! I wish I could find one but I have no idea what it was called. I'm sure my daughter would love it too. The 80s were awesome!! Ahh the good old days!

Colorforms seem like the kind of toy that my other toys would play with. I wish I had a whole big box of them. Then I could give away the Colorforms and play with the big box.

I had lots of Colorforms sets when I was a kid in the 60s. I got a couple sets when I had my tonsils out. I used to mix the characters in the sets, so the Disney ones could play with the Hanna-Barbera ones, for example. They were fun!! My cousins got all of them when we moved to a different state, and I couldn't take many of my toys.

I had many of these throughout my childhood. I had eye surgery as a toddler and one of my earliest memories is sitting in my hospital bed with my eye bandaged, playing with Raggedy Ann Colorforms.
