Description
Cars with the key for speed! A matchbox-type car that had a hole in theback with a spring in it and came with a plastic key. you pushed the key intothe hole until it clicked, and then squeezed the key to release it.

man! i got one of these for easter when i was like 8. must have been 1982 or so. awesome!!!
My brother had tonnes of these when he was a kid and I was sort of jealous that he had them.
my a team van above is mint... was thinking of sticking it on ebay but not sure if i have the heart to do it...
i just found my ferrari testerosa key car but alas, i have no key. still enjoy playin with it at work
I was at this "Fire Station" museum, and one area they had a bunch of toys from over the years that were fire trucks and so. I suddenly shouted to my wife "OH hey look its a key car!" It was a "fire cheif" car. I had that. I still do but I can't find the key either

OMG I totally forgot about these until my son got like this mini one and not very good quality might I add lol so I told him of all the young good toys maan they don't make eme like used to!!!
I still have two of these - a police car and the Knight Rider 2000??? car. I only have the key for the Knight Rider car, and it still works. :)
So, my friend's parents saved lots of her childhood toys, and she lets my 4 yr. old play with her key cars, and now he wants one so bad...I can't believe they don't make these anymore; they're so fun! Ever heard of anyone doing repros? Thx.
Was going through some old toys today. I found 3 key cars...1 powder blue firebird, 1 red semi-truck, and 1 white corvette. They are all marked as being made in 1980. And they all work, but I only have one key left (from the Firebird).
Used to play with these on the sidewalk with my neighbor when I was a kid. Man, were we easily entertained in those days.
My parents bought me one in '82 or '83. After I used it so long the key would become compressed and wouldn't work. My dad would put a few nickels or pennies "in the key" to expand it back out so it would work again.
I never had one as a kid but a co-worker gave me a Knight 2000 the other day. I flies across the room. Pretty cool little car and complete.
I had the blue firebird/trans am... I was so happy because you could never find the hot wheels hot bird.
Ya i had the blue firebird. My cousin had the white one we'd race each other. I think the key mechanism finally went bad on mine. They didnt last long
I just found all 8 of the Burnin Key Cars that I had, including the #51 demo car where the hood pops off when it something. The Jeep Honcho was my favorite, I have a black and a white one.
