Wow! I loved this toy! You could make all sorts of weird insects in different colors. The colors came in tubes. I remember wondering how a little bulb could actually harden the gummy stuff. There were even sets where you could attach a mechanism to make your creepy crawler grasshopper jump like the real thing

The colors came in plastic squirt bottles for me, if memory serves well. But they did stink and took forever. I had like 3 of the metal plates, kept me amused for a very long time.

my brother and i had these, we just recently got rid of the set, i think it didn't work anymore, and we didn't have any of the goo left. my brother and i would always fight over who got to play with it. i burned the crap out of myself on the metal molds many many times

There's another version of this -- the "gross-eries" maker, or something. It made actual edible gummies, rather than the rubber ones.

This toy came out in the 60's! I'm 54 and I had one when I was around 8. They were awesome!!! I'm a girl and had a great time with it. Still remember the smell and getting burned on the metal plates.

OMG! I haven't thought about this in 20 yrs. My brother and myself spent a million hours cooking up bugs and worms! It was a blast at that time.

I had the original that came out in 1964 or 65. I used to make stuff for kids at school, especially pins. I sold them for 10-50 cents, depending on size, and by how many colors were in the item. I had a good business going for quite a while.
