I was wondering what the price was on this Animator and if it was a collecter

Ooh, I had this! I think I might still have it at my parents' house. I loved it, but I think I remember that it kind of sucked.

It really was a piece of junk. It could only store something like a dozen full screen frames. However, you could play those frames in a user-defined sequence. Meaning, if you were clever enough, you could reuse your set of 12 frames in various orders to create longer animations. It came with a booklet containing several examples like a baseball batter missing 2 pitches and then hitting the 3rd. Of course you could also loop the sequence so you could play your 12 frames over-and-over again. It was junk. Whatelse can I add.

I wanted one so bad when I was about 5, eventually I got it and was mighty disappointed.

I was talking to me husband about this toy, everyone wanted it, I remember the commercial was a dancing skeleton break dancing. I loved this toy! I have no idea what happened to it though. Of course game boy is much better, but it was cool at the time.

This toy sucked! Mine eventually collected dust under the bed.

I remember feeling mislead by the commercial. Keep in mind I was pretty young so everything was still "magical" to me. So I got the impression from the commercial that you could draw one thing and the toy would magically "animate" it for you. Heh, I didn't get that you had to draw each frame of animation. I got one for Christmas and it didn't work... then I got another one that didn't work either. Third time was the charm. Yeah it was kinda limited but I still remember playing with it occasionally. But I'm not a very good sketcher, so a lot of my own animations were very basic.

I guess I must be the exception to the rule. My father showed me how to use it, and it would keep me quiet for hours. My fave was the jaguar. I still have it and would never give it away. Now I am a graphic designer... lol. I guess this was my precursor.

I think they did a good job balancing graphics, memory, and features in this product considering 1980s costs. I used one and it had just enough of each to be able to do creative stuff with it yet, still cheap enough to make to be viable as a toy in that timeframe. In a few years the iPOD will be gay, so get over yourselves.

This was my favorite toy!! I came up with so many picture stories, it kept me busy for hours on end. I wish I still had mine. I am trying to find one for my 9 year old. I think he would love it.

I just picked one up on Ebay. It is GREAT. Some bits are a mystery, like how you repeat the frames etc, however it still works 22 years on. Your iphones won't stick it out that long ;)

I still have mine and it works. I can't wait to hand it down to my kids. I remeber making the running cat , but at the end of the sequence I would have it run into a wall. It was so cool!

Just wanted to add to the people saying this did NOT suck and was in fact awesome. Of course I had never seen the commercials for it so maybe the lack of disappointment helped.

I had one of these back in the 80's; for me it was something of a rude awakening to find out that drawing and animating was such a long process. An awesome toy if you were willing to put in the work.

I remember the original Etch A Sketch, but I don't remember the animator version of it. For those that have/had it, how much fun is/was it?
