These kind of freaked me out a little. I just never liked a lot of fancy stuff on my toys. We spent too much time in trees and playing outside to make batteries and electronics that much fun.

Mine was scary!! It made a whirring type noise when its mouth moved and it smelled funny, sort of like burnt plastic (??). Eventually the batteries leaked all over and then only the mouth moved and she made some odd sounds. I never liked her as much as the one my mom sewed for me. Does anyone else have a home-made cabbage patch kid? Apparently they're supposed to be worth a lot more then the originals. They were plastic heads that came with a pattern to sew the body and they were really from Xavier Roberts. I have a boy and a girl.

I really loved my little doll, but then decided to watch 'Childs Play' and that put me off it forever!. It now lives wherever I can't see it, I'm just too sentimental to get rid of it.

I had two talking Cabbage Patch Dolls as a child, one blonde and one redhead. They were incredible toys... I would turn them on together, and after a while they would become "aware" of each other and begin talking back and forth. They even sang songs in harmony together, which I thought was the coolest thing in the world! :) After a few years, something happened to the redhead that made her unable to sense her cup anymore to take a drink. She would beg for "her little cup," and I always felt so guilty I would have to turn her off every time she became thirsty (which never took long). Even with the malfunctioning mouth though, those toys were two of my absolute favorites growing up. :)

I still have mine. I remember saving up money for a Cricket doll. When I had the money saved, we went to the store to get it...and they were out. My mom suggested a talking CPK instead. I thought she was better than Cricket.

We were cleaning out my moms house and came across our talking dolls. We have four because there were four girls. We put new batteries in and all four of them worked. We even had all their sippy cups. If anyone would like to buy them contact me at cindycc_73 at yahoo dot com
Jamie - May 16, 2010 - Report this comment
Anyone know how the sippty cups work? My parents found a bunch of the talkers at Goodwill, but they are missing their cups and its depressing when they ask for a drink and you cant give it to them. I'd like to attempt to make a few cups, but I dont know what the talkers respond too. Magnetism, touch? Does anyone know what is so special about the cups that the dolls sense?
Morgan - May 30, 2010 - Report this comment
Jamie - I just put the batteries in 3 of my dolls for my daughter, when she asked for a drink I held a magnet up to her mouth and she drank.

I bought a talking Cabbage Patch Kid for my daughter and we heard that if there were two dolls they would communicate with each other so I bought one for myself. Ten years ago mine stopped working but hers is still going strong. I would love to buy a second one to communicate with my daughter's doll. Or if I can't buy one, does anyone know where to get the broken one fixed? My email address is: im2funny4u@juno.com. Please email me at that addy if you have one to sell or know where I can get it fixed. Thanks! Renne H.

I had one. She scared me so bad I left her in the closet deep under a large pile of clothes. It was the time that childs play was out. And she talked on her own. Like if you left her on her stomach, she would say "PLEASE TURN ME OVER"!!! AHHHH just thinking about those days gives me the heeby jeebies!!! LOL

Oh i had a talking cabbage patch doll, she had red hair and blue eyes and although i collected all cabbage patch kids, she was my most favourite, my stepmum had the brown hair blue eyes one and i used to like to put them together and sing with them...... i took my redhead girl everywhere, i adored her until my dad decided to "see how she worked" (electronic freak) and totally broke her, i remember when i lost her cup and she would beg for it i felt so bad, i still have mine, she is just a shell now because when the brown haired one broke my dad "transplanted" the red heads parts into her (no idea what my ex stepmum did with her) so mine is sitting in a box, no clothes and just a shell of her former self, been more then 10 years maybe 16 years and today my dad called me to tell me that he found an exact one to my girl and paid top dollars to get her sent here to Australia, she is still working and has the same red hair and blue eyes but my dad wants to transplant the faces (dont ask me why, its the same face, may tell him to leave it)she comes with no sippy cup (will need to find one) i might be 25 years old now but i still got excited to know that i will finally get another one of these dolls. @DIANE...... im in sydney and my dad is great with electronics, if you email me at .... Anythya@gmail.com...... i may be able to help get your daughters doll fixed :)

Hi. I'm in serious need for a working, reasonably good, used talker. Just bought my 5yr old a fairly "new" talker not too long ago, thought I'd another under my belt for her to enjoy the interactive play of two dolls together, BUT LOST it to an eBay snipe bidder. Now what I have on my hands is a VERY UPSET lil one who REALLY wanted a second talker. Anyone with one for sale (no more than $50-60), please let me know. (onitanejo@gmail.com). Thank you.

I need a battery compartment cover for my daughter's talking cabbage patch doll. I want to give it to her daughter. Tried eBay. Anyone help me?
Donna - March 17, 2015 - Report this comment
I've seen some of u asking for the sippy cup for your talking cabbage patch kids. You can make one. All that's needed is a STRONG magnet (sold at hardware Stores) and a small toy cup. Hot glue the magnet to the inside edge of the cup. Your kid will drink again! Good luck!

I think you can send the cpk to the baby-land general hospital and they can fix them. I just found an orphan at Savers with Kid Sister clothes on and her own tights I need her own clothes for her. Haven't put a battery in her yet but got her cornsilk hair detangled and back in their pony tails with little hair loss thank goodness for fabric softener and morrocan hair oil.

What size and how many batteries do they take?
Kathy - September 01, 2018 - Report this comment
Steve, they take 4 AA batteries and a 9V. I just found one. The mouth works but the voice doesn't. I'm guessing the 4 AAs run one (the motor?) and the 9V runs the other (the voice?). I'd like to fix her -- any suggestions?

I, like most others on here have 2 talking kids. One talks, but you can barely hear her and the other makes clicking noises. I can't find anyone to repair them. I want them fixed for my daughter. I am the original owner of them and they are like brand new. So I'm not sure why they aren't talking properly. :( Please help with suggestions. Thanks!
