Description
It was a big red plastic "bowl" we used to put it in the pool, but it would sink if it got too full (not floaty) you could also sit in it and rock back and forth.

It was an awsome outside play toy. 4 of us could fit in it with no problem. Grew up with it wish they still made them..

Where can you buy a wombler? i teach preschool and ours is "lost" and we would really like another one. Any ideas?

These were fantastic! Great for all ages. At one time I had 5 but gave 4 of them as gifts. I wish I would have kept all of them! I have been looking for about 20 years for another one. We used them in the pool, on the lawn, even turned it upside down for a slide for little ones. We kept one in the living room and would cuddle up to read stories or watch TV.

Ted - August 14, 2011 - Report this comment
My grandmother invented the wombler, they had a fight with the company that owned the mold for making them.for some reAson it cost more money than it was worth to buy the mold so she gave up on it.kinda sad I miss my womblers I had lots of Them in various colors them growing up

My dad made the first prototype here in Vancouver, my sis and I were the testers... only drawback was the first model was made out of fiberglass... my god how that itched. First prototype also had a ring around the outside lower edge to keep it from flipping over... good times though. Shame it never really took off.

Ted and/or Alex. Is there any way you can provide the information for the company your family worked with? I would like to contact them--maybe even check into buying the mold.

I would love to buy a bunch of these too! My sister won one from our local toy shop when we were young & we played with it for hours. One of the best toys to promote imaginations! If someone starts selling them please let us know! I will look for a picture to post so there can a visual.

I work as a lifeguard at a summer camp and noticed that we have 3 of these! I had no clue what they were or what they're purpose was so I decided to do some research and this is the only place I have found any information about them. I must say they are pretty comfy to lie down in! Anyone know where I can buy one?
Di - October 06, 2014 - Report this comment

bn - April 01, 2016 - Report this comment
Didn't they pull them because of the risk of drowning when kids would flip them upside down in a pools and then use up the oxygen inside?

Hi! Does anyone have a wombler they would sell me? You can PM me (Anna Nicholaides) through Facebook if so. Thanks!

I remember these. I almost drowned from 1 of them when i was a kid. Just like the guy above said. It flipped on top of me whhen i tried to get out and when youre a kid , i remember being trapped underneath and not having the strength to push it off me , i remember it pushing down on me it was scary and i banged on the plastic until someone came and lifted it off.

Yeah, we had one... super fun on land. I too had a terrifying experience and close call in a pool with an inverted wombler on top of me, very similar to Ron's account. Assumed they were pulled from the market for safety reasons.

Yes it true what Ted said his grandmother Charlotte invented the wombler. The people who made the mold for this toy could not get it off the ground they gave my father and step mother a real hard time, was too costly to reproduce and they had no more money to invest or fight the person who made the mold.

I have 2 Womblers! Would be willing to sell 1 0r maybe 2, if the price is right! I don't see any out there for sale. Make me an offer...
Craig - March 15, 2017 - Report this comment
They were a fun toy, where kids and adults alike, could use their imagination! They were great in the pool, under supervision, of course! Kids and adults, would rock in them and try to keep water out, but watch out, as water gets in, you topple. Part of the fun! Fun on grass to just rock! Kids would play with their toys in them. I would cuddle in one with my kids and read books, they would fall asleep in them. I would spin the kids in them and they only wanted more! The options are endless. Made from a durable plastic and best of all..Made in CANADA! I don't see any out there for sale, which tells me one thing...they are worth keeping!

Dang! Was just looking for one, as my son is having a blast playing with one during his swimming lessons. So much fun, but could definitely see the risks if used unsupervised.

Our pool just did a fall clean out and we threw away the wombler. So. Brought it home thinking I would use it as a flower bed or water feature. So I now feel it may be worth something if anyone wants tour it I will reinvest the money into new safer pool toys!

I have a Wombler (well used) that has cracked due to miss use. I was wondering if anyone knows the type of plastic it is made of, so I may get it repaired or someone who can do the repair.

My grandmother the inventor recently passed away and i have a bunch of the original sales brochures and media packages i was gonna share here but cant post pictures here.
Xenu - November 07, 2017 - Report this comment
LOL! Sounds like Ted and Charlotte are bit-errrr! Why don't you try recovering all that lost money from the C.O.S.? Think about all the money your folks scammed over this from good people, heh? Inventors? Goof, watch your step! If your parents cared they would have passed you the patent! Everyone has moved on, so should you!

Weren't these pulled from the stores because of the danger that kids would float them upside down in the pool like a fort and run out the oxygen underneath?
Sud - July 24, 2020 - Report this comment
guess I was the only kid smart enough to realize oxygen was a thing and to duck out of it and resupply fresh air regularly. It was amazing to be under, all the sounds of the water were amplified and echo-y and it was like being in a cave. Life's just no fun without a little danger!

I was just reminiscing about the wombler and found this thread. Our local swimming pool (C.B. Brown in Burnaby, BC) had these, and I too almost drowned in one. It flipped on me and had me trapped until I had the sense to swim back down and get out from under it. Not shocked they didn't last. Kind of like lawn darts....good times until it isn't. :). Fun memories though!!

We love our Wombler! Someone had it as a roadside giveaway. Kids would sit in it, play in it but they are older now. We use it for collecting our apples, a garden bin & as a huge pumpkin for Halloween! Wish I could share photos.
