They were a family of squirrels that came in a small case that was supposed to be the inside of a tree which came with furniture. Each set also came with a story book about the squirrel family.

I loved my Woodsies! I think my parents still have them. Great toys, finger puppets- fun little carrying case, and they squeeked when you squeezed them.

I remember these! There was a mother, father and "Milkweed" the baby squirrel! Don't ask me why I remember the baby's name, guess because it sounded kinda funny. The set also came with a story book about the little squirrel family. We played with these forever!!!! Wish we still had them, my children would love them.

I had the woodsies and I loved them. But one day I lost Milkweed, the little boy, and I was devestated. I tried to play with the mom and dad after that but it wasn't the same. I still wonder what happened to him. It was very upsetting at the time.

I LOVED the Woodsies!! Did anyone have any of the others? There was Uncle Filbert, who was a pilot and had a squishy plane and a squishy airplane hangar. There was a also a general store with squishy produce in a little cart and a beaver and I think some other animals. These all had books too.

I loved these so much I can't even begin to describe it. I had the log house AND their grocery store complete with fruit stand (the fruit stand had a solid plastic brick of fruit that fit in it.)SO rad.

I still have mine too! Maw, Paw, Milkweed and their house, Grandma and Grandpa in the birch tree house complete with fruit cart, and Uncle Filbert with the plane and his hanger. And all 3 books! I still love them!

I had the whole set - my husband and I recently cleaned out some boxes from my parents' attic and found all of the Woodsies! "Less Squeak, more action!" I remember Ma Woodsie used to say.

I LOVED MY WOODIES. My Aunt Mary gave me them when I was little. Once my friend's mom saw how much I enjoyed them, she bought the rest of the gang for her two kids. Together we had the whole Woodsie community, Grandma & Grandpa's highrise log too:)

I had only the squirrels but I was very much in love with this toy as a boy. I lost them over time but their furniture would always turn up in boxes of my stuff as we moved around.
Jennifer - June 19, 2008 - Report this comment
I loved them, I only had the Mom, Dad & Milkweed, the loghouse and some furniture. My Father would always play with the set with me and he would really "animate" Milkweed for me. I believe I carried the family in their house everywhere I went! Ahhhh...childhood memories! Don't have a clue where any piece of it is now!

Awww!!! They were so cute!! Still have them, as with all my other stuff, in my parent's basement! I have the log house with mom dad and baby and the tree stump grocery store with the grandparents. I always loved how the basket of produce could fit in the barrow or in the window of the store! Also loved reading the books that came with them over and over again! Fab toy!!

I've been looking for someone that knew what the woodsies were for along time I was just talking with my friend the other day and for some reason remebered playing with these as a child. Does anyone know if they still make them anymore?
Jason - October 20, 2008 - Report this comment
I had most of the set. I had the soft log home with the entire squirrel family. My favorite was Bramble Beaver though! Milkweed would "damage" the home and only the beaver could fix it! What memories!
Allison Thomley - October 22, 2008 - Report this comment
Can you still get these?

I still have my Woodsey family and log. My friend Cathy and I would play with them in the forested lots of the Indiana dunes. She has a baby girl who is coming to visit this weekend, and we will play with them then! I wish the Woodsey's and their friends would be re-distributed. I saw someone selling them on ebay a year or two ago....

We moved recently and I know I still have my woodsie family, the house, and the book. Some of the furniture may be missing. Now if I can only find that box. My 3y/o would love them for sure.

My sister and I received the whole Woodsie set the Christmas of 1980. I have the most adorable picture of us playing with them on Christmas Day. My mom and I were just commenting how we wish we had kept them. I would love to have them for my daughter, Sarah. Good thinking to all those who stored them in the attic for all these years. I wish we had!

Does anyone know the toy company name who manufactured this toy? Can anyone look on their's to see? Please let me know!
Ben - January 24, 2009 - Report this comment
The Woodsies were manufactured by Fisher Price from 1979-1982. There was also a Very Blue Bird who delivered the mail. They were my favorite toys before I got my first Star Wars figures!

Man, I still have my Uncle Filbert, although sans the squishy hanger and plane. I was about 2 when I got him, he was always a favorite... sniff, sniff.
Marie - March 19, 2009 - Report this comment
There is also a posting for these under Woodseys (I think that's the right spelling). I would love it if Fisher-Price brought these dolls back! Let's start a petition.

I found my woodies and cleaned them up last week. I have a 3 yr old little girl and she thought they were cute. I could not remember the names, lucky we have the internet these days. I am trying to locate a book now, I still have the furniture. Too bad they don't make toys as simple and fun to play with these days.

OMG, I loved the Woodsies! I used to do puppet shows in which an evil frog puppet would devour the squirrel family while chanting, "I'm Mr. Meany. I eat chipmunks!" When I was older, I created seasonal tableaux featuring the Woodsies.

I had the Woodsie grandparents...they ran the "grocery store" and lived in a tree and had a fruit stand at the back of the house. The fruit from my set was a soft pillow with different fruits printed on it. My cousin had the log with the family...I always though my set was better. The house had a little area at the top where grandma and grandpa slept! I played with these toys for AGES. I absolutely loved them!

I remember one Christmas all I wanted were the the Woodsies. To my utter shock and horror I watched my sister pull the wrapping paper from HER new Woodsies. She never appreciated them. Would love to find a set.

I have been looking everywhere for this set of woodsies, it was my favorite toy as a kid and we lost this and many other childhood toys in a house fire when I was 7. I now have 3 kids that would love them. If anyone that owns them would like to sell please contact me!!crfraley1@comcast.net.

I still has the squirrels that came with the tree house and one chair. People keep calling them "woodsies" but I thought at the time they were called something else...? Any help? I know Sylvanian Families came after them with their catchy little commercial song but I could swear Woodsies had a different name...Too bad the tree house got dirty and always fell over. After it's descruction, I remember making little match box beds for them and tucking them in at night...Ahh..childhood...

We still have the log house, the squirrels and furniture. Not sure we have the book. Fisher Price would do well to re-release the Woodsie families again! I hope my sister lets me have them for my kids to play with. : )

They have a version of these (new) called (I think) Woodseez something like that at Walmart. I think they were modeled on this old toy. The new ones are more like a bigger version of calico critters, and really cheap to buy. They also have furniture sets and of course a house and schoolhouse (plastic of course). They have frogs, skunks, hedgehogs, rabbits, etc. They also come with a little book and story about the animal family.

O WOW I loved my Woodsies!!!!! I would definalty sign a petition to bring them back. I lost Uncle Filbert in Monument Valley Utah in a sand storm back in 1984. We stopped for something and he fell out.:( I had the family in the log house and Uncle Filbert and his hanger and plane. I never knew there was more to the set. O Wow!!!!!

I was OBSESSED with these things. My parents would tape me on a cassette player playing with these things, and I had voices and all these storylines I made up. Of course we still have most of them in the attic, but ironically some chipmunk or squirrel chewed the heads off a couple of them (AND my He-Men!!!). My parents STILL know all the Woodsies' names!!!

Not sure how many of you saw this. And I'm not sure how many stores had them, but this last summer, I picked up a few of them... from Walmart. Not Joking, I don't know if they are still selling them now, haven't seen them in a few months. But they had a few of the sets. Owls, hedgehogs, rabbits, bears. Very very very very cool find

My kids had these, and they were lovely toys. Besides, they didn't hurt nearly as much as Barbie and her darned 40DDs or Legos when I stepped on them in the dark. I'm going to check with Walmart. Any

"Sometimes you have to go thru prickles to get good berries". Father Woodsie was very wise, and I have used that saying many times throughout the years.

Oh my goodness! I remember my parents getting the Woodseys for me for Christmas one year. The bought one of them, then I got Uncle Filbert for my birthday and then I got the grandma and grandpa for the following Christmas. I think I still have them in storage somewhere. I spend countless hours playing with them.
