Songs from the Eighties That Have Been In Commercials, Products Beginning with G
Well, it was bound to happen, and it has been happening now for a while,
Commercials bleeding the memory of the eighties, for music. The first one I
remember is "Like A Rock" and then "Born in the USA." Now it's food items.
What's next? I'd love to hear your recomendations. Please limit it to
TELEVISION Commercials though. Radio stations usually mix in background
music with spoken ads by the DJ's and the music tends to be used in both
radio and television versions of most Commercials eventually.

GMACbank.com, using
Donna Summer's,
"She Works Hard for the Money"
A ball bounces across the song (not Donna's version, BTW), like the old Sing Along with Mitch TV show.
GMC, using
Modern English's,
"I Melt with You"
Another go-around with this song. A female sings it; it's a very cloying cover.
The Gap, using
New Edition's,
"Cool It Now"
I'm a huge New Edition fan, so I was so excited to see one of their songs on a Christmas Gap commercial!!!
Gateway Computers, using
Devo's,
"Whip It"
Can we get something more original?
General Electric, using
Berlin's,
"Take My Breath Away"
The singer who "sings" it would never make it past the American Idol auditions!
Gillette, using
Survivor's,
"Eye Of The Tiger"
Great! This man wakes up and goes to shower and starts to dance this song while he shaves. Then goes to the kitchen dancing and a beautiful girl takes his towel off.
Gillette Razors, using
Bananarama's,
"Venus"
The one with women sunbathers showing off their legs like the Rockettes.
Glade - Air freshener, using
Paul Young's,
"Love Is In The Air"
This commercial is very good actually. A man and woman come to the car as they yelling each other and when they get in the car they feel the scent and they are gazing in their eyes with love and admire and the song starts to play instantly. Good work.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, using
Flock of Seagulls's,
"I Ran (So Far Away)"
This game is set in the '80s, and I like the song, so why not compliment one good thing with another? By the way, the game is gnarly!
