Songs from the Eighties That Have Been In Commercials, Products Beginning with M
Well, it was bound to happen, and it has been happening now for a while,
Commercials bleeding the memory of the eighties, for music. The first one I
remember is "Like A Rock" and then "Born in the USA." Now it's food items.
What's next? I'd love to hear your recomendations. Please limit it to
TELEVISION Commercials though. Radio stations usually mix in background
music with spoken ads by the DJ's and the music tends to be used in both
radio and television versions of most Commercials eventually.

This one shows a log cabin and the M-Azing bar is by the fire. Sounds Christmassy.

I think the beat sounds like that song, but that may be a song instrumentally made up with that kind of beat.

May Department Stores Company, using
Dusty Springfield's,
"Always Someone There To Remind Me"
They use the slogan "Always something there to excite me" is sung to the tune of "Always Someone There To Remind Me". (Editor's note: This is the same jingle used in the local L.S. Ayres dept. store ads.)

Michelob, using
Steve Winwood's,
"Don't You Know What The Night Can Do?"
Kandoo-very nice.
Michelob, using

Michelob Beer, using
Eric Clapton's,
"After Midnight"
Eric Clapton remade his own song and made it better (IMHO).

Phil Collins's,
"Tonight, Tonight, Tonight"
Beer commercial from spring 1987. I saw in on an old video tape I had.
Michelob Beer, using
Genesis's,
"In the Air Tonight"
Unless I am mistaken, this song, although a Phil Collins solo effort was used in a Michelob commercial timed with Genesis' Invisible Touch tour.
Milky Way, using
Tommy Tutone's,
"867-5309/Jenny"
A man is driving around in a car listening to (and singing) this song and eating a Milky Way. It becomes obvious that the man, while eating the Milky Way, cannot sing the song any more!
Miller Beers, using
Devo's,
"Freedom Of Choice"
The ad featured people that kept falling forward like dominoes. The human domino trail leads to a bar where the last guy (who drinks a Miller Light) moves out of the way before the guy next to him falls on him.
Minute Maid Light (Lemonade), using
Andrea True Connection's,

Motel 6, using
Talking Heads's,
"Let's Talk It Over In Bed"
In the video, the man was in the suitcase; on the bed. In the commercial, the lady came out of a suitcase; that was sitting on a bed, close to the door. I believe that the woman had "long", blonde hair.
Mountain Dew, using
Lionel Richie's,
"All Night Long"
Used to promote a new brand called MDX. Ad had night creatures like bats dancing to it.
Mountain Dew, using
Queen's,
"Bohemian Rhapsody"

That song appears in the MDX commercial, in this short commercial appears a bat singing the song.

The Movie Charlotte's Web, using
Twisted Sister's,
"We're Not Gonna Take It"
They used this song in the promo for Charlotte's Web with a bunch of kids spray-painting "Save Wilbur" everywhere. I like this use better than the one for understandpmdd.com's.

Mr. Submarine, using
.38 Special's,
"Teacher, Teacher"
Instead of singing "teacher teacher" they sing "doctor doctor."
Mythbusters, using
Thomas Dolby's,
"She Blinded Me With Science"
I would not count this as a product. However, I thought it was worth a mention since it is an 80's song. The show is on TLC. They use the song to promote their show - The Mythbusters. They change some of the lyrics around.
Mythbusters, using
Thomas Dolby's,
"She's Blinded Me With Science"
I know one lyric changed---"She's Blinded Us With Science", replacing "Me" with "Us". Although, the network was wrong. It airs on Discovery.
