Songs from the Eighties That Have Been In Commercials, Products Beginning with L
Well, it was bound to happen, and it has been happening now for a while,
Commercials bleeding the memory of the eighties, for music. The first one I
remember is "Like A Rock" and then "Born in the USA." Now it's food items.
What's next? I'd love to hear your recomendations. Please limit it to
TELEVISION Commercials though. Radio stations usually mix in background
music with spoken ads by the DJ's and the music tends to be used in both
radio and television versions of most Commercials eventually.

Lancome, using
The Cocteau Twins And This Mortal Coil's,
"Song To The Siren"
Strange, mostly, strange. I think Uma Thurman writhes about in a field and then turns to the camera. Like a dream and a nightmare at the same time. Hmmm, anyway, very big Cocteau Twins fan so, woo! (and other noises).
Lay's, using
MC Hammer's,
"U Can't Touch This"
Used In Super Bowl XXXIX.
Lemoria (Japanese Lemonade-type Soft Drink), using
Frankie Goes To Hollywood's,
"Relax"
It's a Japanese commercial(of course only aired in Japan),but this drink wants you to relax with this drink,so that's why I think they used the song "Relax".
Lendingtree.com, using
The Fixx's,
"One Thing Leads to Another"
$$$ forces a house off a cliff and Lending Tree comes in and saves them.
Levi's, using
Culture Club's,
"Karma Chameleon"
I've seen at least three versions of this; it's various kids doing karaoke/butchering Karma Chameleon.
Levi's jeans, using
The Clash's,
"Should I Stay or Should I Go "
This was used in the UK only I guess. What is shocking is that after the song was used in the commercial, it was reissued as a single in the UK in 1991 and went to #1 on the UK!
Levi´s Jeans, using
The Clash's,
"Should I Stay Or Should I Go"
This song was also used for the German commercial (I think they had used this worldwide). It was the last of commercials picking up songs from a former decade, after Levi´s had kicked off a brief revival of 50s and 60s songs (Sam Cookes 'Wonderful World' and Jackie Wilsons 'Reet Petite'). That alone made me refraining from buying a Levi´s...heck, we were in the 80s!
Lipton Tea, using
The Police's,
"Every Breath You Take"
Lyrics were changed to "Every drink you take, I'll be drinking you" for a tea commercial.
Listerine, using
Baltimora's,
"Tarzan Boy"
The commercial at the time had the start on computer graphics. Looked pretty silly. Funny tune.
Listerine Mouthwash, using Baltimora's, "Tarzan Boy"
