Food of the Eighties, Products Beginning with A

I've been asked a couple of times for information about what food was specific to the 80s, so I've started a small list which I'm sure will grow pretty rapidly. Cereals of the 80s have their own page.

This list contains items that were around before and after the 80s, I'm looking for stuff that was still popular in the 80s. So this list will contain items that were around in the 70s, and maybe earlier if they were still popular.

Please note! Zima and clear colas were a 90s fad, not an 80s fad! I know it might seem like a long time ago, but that's only because they tasted so awful and were marketed so heavily. (Somehow, Zima still persists, though no one has determined why).

Abba Zabba
White taffy outside, with peanut butter in the center
Alba 77
A powdered shake mix that you mixed with ice in the blender.
Alexander the Grape
Made by the same company as Lemonheads, Redhots, and Boston Baked Beans. Small, purple, grape-flavored candies. Very tart! They were my favorite, but I haven't seen them in years.
Almost Home Cookies
One of the first brands of soft cookies. They came in a bag that was supposd to look like an embroidered sampler. The best kind were the peanut butter with the chocolate on top. The commercials were based on the idea that they were supposed to taste almost homemade.
Alpine White
Was probably mad by Nestle...it was a white chocolate bar - shaped just like a Nestle Crunch-with tiny pieces of almonds or whatever nuts they were. I think they were sold until the late 80s.
Amazing Fruit
Gummi Bears. The commercials had these bears dancing.
Annie Shells
Macaroni and cheeze mix like shell pasta. White cheddar cheeze and organic. Bunny on the box named Bernie.
Apple Frosted Mini-Wheats
Just like the original frosted mini-wheats. Only instead of the traditional white frosting, they had a bright green apple flavored frosting. Circa early to mid 80's. Very tasty!
Apple Koolaid
It was Apple flavored kool-aid it came out in the early 80's I liked the flavor, imitation apple almost like apple Jolly Rancher, but it was not popular, it was gone probably by the mid eighties.
Apple Slice
Slice cola, in apple flavor. Kind of like carbonated apple juice. I loved it!
Aspen Soda
This came out sometime in the 80's. It was an apple flavored soda and it was great !
Astro-Pop
4-inch, 3-colored, conical hard candy on a stick. Something like a small jousting lance. Sticky and will pull out your fillings if you bite down on it. May still be around today, I don't know.
Astro-pak Milk
School milk that came in little plastic bags, you had to press down on one end and pop a straw in. You can imagine the "accidents" that happened with that.
Astronaut Ice Cream
Freeze dried ice cream that can still be bought at a few different places to this day
Atomic Fireball
A small "jawbreaker" type candy that was very hot. The outter layer was hard and spicy but the inner layer was soft and sweet. These were popluar around the late 80's.
Aussie Bear
I think it came to America in '83 or early '84. It was a milk chocolate koala bear candy bar filled with caramel. I am not sure how long it was around before it came to America but they advertised it like it was a popular snack in Australia and now "You can get Aussie Bars right here"! That could have just been an advertising kind of stunt. Another commercial had kids singig "Aussie Bear....Aussie Bear..." I am not sure when they were no longer available but they were quite tasty.
Aussie Bear chocolates
I think aussie bears are the same thing as Caramello Koalas. They are on the website for Cadbury Australia, www.cadbury.com.au They can be found under 'choose a product', then 'kids confectionary'
